All things being equal with an emphasis for 162.025/161.975 Class A:B AIS comms, which antenna would do the job best, a Discone or a fibreglass Marine?

not a huge difference. A Discone on your Chimbly is useful TX 28Mhz to 1.2GHZ and RX slightly wider... Or a lot wider if the signal is good.

A fibre glass whip with a skinny wire up the middle *MIGHT* have 1 to 3dB more gain if it's a 5/8th rather than a 1/4. But it might need radials if on the house roof.

If it's a boat, don't even consider the Discone.

Choice of down lead vs distance to radio is nearly more important.

It's a house and a whip with radials 5/8th is in fact what I am looking at. Thanks for the reply
