VLC form not posted

    Hi Guys

Quick question; i sold a car last weekend, it was high mileage and needed some work so was going cheap and i got loads of calls. So a couple of Romanian guys came to have a look and they decided to take it. One of them filled out the VLC form with me and i told him that i would post it on Monday.

So they left with the car and all was fine until i noticed that the VLC form was gone. I rang the guy and he said that he had it and i asked him to post it off on Monday and he said he would. (he must have picked it up as we walked out)

Ive tried to contact him this week to ensure it was sent btu the phone is always turned off. Note that i have his name and address.

I just wondering what should i do? wait until next week and call shannon and see if ownership has been transferred? i presume it would be too premature to speak to the guards?

Just dont want the car getting points or being any accidents etc while its still in my name.

    thanks

Call the Gardai ASAP. You don't need them to do anything, just to have a record of the incident, that you followed with a phone call to the buyer who committed to posting the form and that you can no longer get through to the number. He may well post it over the next week but if he hasn't by the end of next week, then it's time to take action.

You can check if a change of ownership has gone through on www.motortax.ie - click Vehicle Transaction Enquiry on the left side of the home page.

Tell him you want it back ASAP or you're reporting the car as stolen.

quick update on this; i called the guards and they suggested that i get a replacement VLC and register the vehicle as scrapped. The new form came today so im just wondering can i just fill it in somewhere to say the car has been scrapped and send to shannon? do i need an end of life cert as well?

The buyer is still not contactable, phone hasnt been turned on since they bought the car and we got an eflow bill today too so need to get this done asap.

    thanks

Why would you register it as scrapped?

Yea, If you have the guys details, fill them in and send it off with date of sale on it!

ive two options, the guy who bought it is acting the mick and is not going to send off the form to change ownership. My fault for not making sure i was the one to send it off but im not going to pay for him going throught the toll bridge each day or pay fines when the tax is out. So if i scrap it then its his problem..........until he arrives at my door!

I have his name and address so i can sign it and send it off. Didnt initially want to do this as ill be signing for him but it's probably the best option and least hassle for me....

If this is still dragging on, go back to the Gardai and tell them that you want to report the VLC as stolen, which in effect it was.
