Been following this closely.. and here's the trailer:

After getting critical acclaim, being an official selection at various film festivals, and winning a handful of awards last year - Best Worst Movie is getting a limited theatrical run at the end of the month in the US.

For those of you who don't know what it is:
Best Worst Movie is the acclaimed feature length documentary that takes us on an off-beat journey into the undisputed worst movie in cinematic history: Troll 2.

In 1989, when an Italian filmmaker and unwitting Utah actors shot the ultra-low budget horror film, Troll 2, they had no idea that twenty years later they would be celebrated worldwide for their legendary ineptitude.

Two decades later, the film’s now-grown-up child star (Michael Paul Stephenson) unravels the improbable, heartfelt story of the Alabama dentist-turned-cult movie icon and the Italian filmmaker who come to terms with this genuine, internationally revered cinematic failure.

I've heard of this alright and I'll end up watching it. Last really good doc based on an obscure subject I watched was The King Of Kong.

In fairness, I've seen a lot worse shìte than Trolls 2. (The Day After Tomorrow, anyone? :pac: )

Nah.. I suggest you give it a rewatch to refresh your memory. You can't even put 'The Day After Tomorrow' in the same league as the abomination that is 'Troll 2'.

'Troll 2' belongs with the real dregs of the movie world with absolutely zero redeeming qualitys whatsoever - i.e in the so bad it's good category, like 'The Room'.

    "You can't piss on hospitality!":

    "Oh my God!":

PS - King Of Kong is superb!

I actually like The Day After Tomorrow. :o

Thought 2012 was the biggest load of shite I've ever seen though.

I caught this as part of last year's "stranger than fiction" season in the IFI and really enjoyed it. George Hardy, the dentist in the trailer, is such a likeable character that you wish you could reach into the movie and give him a hug.

He looks like he has more taent, than some of the main stream "stars" that we have.
What was he like in T2?

TBH Hardy's pretty wooden in Troll 2 but by god he's giving it socks and that's what makes his performance so enjoyable.

    Bump!

Just watched this - very good fun although full of very odd, troubled and delusional people. And I don't mean the "fans".

    George Hardy
comes across very well at the start, but his rant about the lack of people interested in the movie at a small convention in Birmingham and his disdain / dislike of horror fans at a convention made me like him a lot less.
    .

And I won't even start on the delusional director, and the quite odd scenes involving Margot (who played the mother).

    The biggest suprise was
that the "they're eating her... and then they're gonna eat me" clip was alluded to, but never shown!

    Anyways, definitely worth a watch!

Just watched it but first I've got to congratulate the producers for choosing a title that would highlight people who only read thread titles. Ahem.

I really enjoyed the documentary and it had such a beautifully bittersweet flavour to it, typified by the grandpa from Troll 2's contribution. There's such an array of characters and moments that the next thing I'm going to do is order a copy of Troll 2. I don't think there could be a more fitting testament to the documentary's quality than that.

Anyone that likes film (fancy that) really owes it to themselves to give this documentary 90 minutes of their time.

This gives me renewed hope that Fatal Deviation will be one day become a blockbuster.

The first convention was very much a tone of him (and the other guys too) realising the film had a very niche appeal that wasn't best served by a big unilateral convention like that. I didn't get any sense of bad tidings from him beyond that. If anyone traveled that distance for a show and that few people showed up there's no way they couldn't be disappointed.

The horror one, though, was completely hilarious and not only did he rip into their
    dental hygiene
but he also made some of the most salient points about the actors who attend conventions I've ever seen from a participant. Sure it got petty, but at least he wasn't fooling himself or sugar coating things for the camera.

If anything, it made me feel more confident the rest of the film with him was very genuine.

I felt more sorry for Hardy than annoyed at him because of his reaction to the conventions. I think he acknowledged afterwards that he had become burnt out on the convention experience. It's better for him in the long run that he had that moment of realisation rather than end up some resentful internet celebrity shilling autographs at conventions.

Is this out on DVD now? I'm a massive freak fan of Troll 2.

Seems like only a R1 (US) dvd for the moment. I haven't found any mention of a uk dvd release yet.

Yeah. It's only $9.99 on Amazon.com (and a region 2 release is probably unlikely at this point) so it makes a good filler if you're ordering something else!

Will everyone please read the OP's post. This is not a list thread, it's about a film called "Best Worst Movie". I've had to delete several posts by people who obviously didn't bother reading the first post.

EDIT: I've added some clarification to the thread title - just in case anyone else thinks this is a list thread.

I haven't seen this since a one off screening at the ifi about two years ago. I thought it was just ok, but the scene where the dentist goes to the horror convention was very revealing and by far the best bit.

He seemed very jovial and nice in his own upper class surroundings, but the minute he was thrust into an alternative environment, he was quite nasty.

There is a hint of a missed opportunity about class divide...those who can afford dental treatment along with flirting with acting and those who simply can't. :p

To be honest you're playing the class card at completely the wrong person - the very first thing we learn in the film is that Hardy had given free dental care to alot of kids who needed it but couldn't ever afford it. He also split time while filming Troll 2 with working as a dentist so he hardly had a huge amount of time to 'flirt' with acting.

From what was shown he's hardly upper class and was never unwilling to make a fool out of himself for a good cause. He just didn't like the horror convention; honestly there's alot for anyone to dislike about any given convention so to pin a whole life on one moment is a little blinked to say the least.

If you think I'm being flippant, that's understandable; I said at the beginning I hadn't seen the film in two years. I don't have a photographic memory.

When someone puts this :P at the end of a sentence, they either aren't sure of the statement they've made or are taking the piss or both i.e. facetious.
