    Hi all,

Can anybody tell me if there is any handgun target shooting centres in Ireland, where you can pay for target shooting with gun supplied (maybe sig 9mm)

You mean just walk in, pay a fee and do some handgun shooting?
Nope, sorry. That's effectively banned by law in Ireland (not that anyone was up to taking the business risk involved before it was effectively banned anyway, rumours to the contrary notwithstanding).
You should be able to find a few places that will do this with shotgun shooting though, like Courtlough.

It is possible to take part in Handgun Target Shooting in Ireland
however, the only route through which you can do so is to enter into the sport which involves:

    a) Join a Gun club which has a Pistol Range
    b) Get some Safety Training
    c) Apply to the Gardai for a license - no small undertaking these days.
You are only allowed Air pistols or .22 calibre in cartridge Pistols

    assuming you get your license......
    d) Attend the range and learn the sport from others
    e) Enter Competition
    f0 Enjoy your sport.

It is not possible to do what you asked in Ireland.

    Hope it helps.

i am surprised walk in handgun shooting is still available in any country with the current economic situation,i have heard from some people that were on holidays in the us that ranges are very wary of total strangers just walking in and taking charge of a loaded pistol.

A bad idea IMHO, but I saw this happen on a commercial range about 2 years ago in ROI.
As Sparks says, not possible now.

If the club is authorised under 2(4)(d) or 4A of the Firearms Acts, you can use club (unrestricted) pistols if you are a member and under supervision.

friend of mines dad was in vegas, and was shooting a 9mm pistol. he had bought a beretta xtrema and was looking for a magazine extension, but they wouldn't entertain him at all, wouldn't even give him a look at any shotguns in the shop. yet they let him shoot a pistol. seems a bit backward, but, dems d rules.

But you can't have temporary or day licences and the DoJ have explicitly said at the FCP conferences over coffee that the reason for this is to prohibit what the OP was talking about. You could definitely lower the entry barrier to the sport for someone who's interested in taking it up, but the casual, walk-in customer isn't something they want to see.

There was a good few people hiring pistols in walk in ranges in the states and killing themselves with them , there was one case where a woman walked in with her 20 yo son and shot him and then herself , not something that anyone wants to happen , but if it were to happen it would be a gift to the doj and gardai who would push for a complete ban on short arms .

Nope, ye cant do it up here either!

You have to be a member of a club to use a club gun. This would also be under the supervision of an experienced club member.
