How can we make things better?

There is a lot of talk on the Radio, in the papers etc of how bad things are in Ireland at present, but talking is not going to get things done.
The government is not up to the job, in fact you could say that the total 'pool' of talent in the Dail is not up to the job, but it is all we have and a General Election is not going to change that pool too much.
What is the feeling here about a National Government, take the best bits from each party.
Things cannot go on as they are, there is no leadership, and the national moral is getting worse by the day.

    Any thoughts?

I consider it a sad state of affairs when the only Politician I consider strong enough to lead this country is quite likely going to die within the next year or so.

Other than Lenihan, not one party is going to get my vote unless they show leadership and a backbone.

I'd we get a time machine and go get Michael Collins and De Valera (when they were still on the same side).
Duplicate them in a duplicating machine, then bring them back to the present.
Then we do the same with FDR, Churchill and pretty much anyone who was previously worth a fcuk, and we make a government out of these people.

Because fantasy is really all we have at this stage....

The knives were out for him too until he dropped his personal bombshell last year. I've never seen such an about-face in public opinion .... ever. Complete hypocritical bullshít by all concerned. He's neither the eejit (nor the great man) that people profess him to be.

A party list system similar to systems currently in place in NZ and Germany and recently proposed by Fine Gael would help solve this problem at the next election.

It would cut the number of TDs and remove the demands of the constituency from them thus allowing them to actually govern the country not just secure the best deal for their local patch.

It could potentially attract provent talent into politics, people who are turned off by the bull**** that in endemic in working your way to a party nomination for a GE. However the George Lee episode recently shows that the very party that proposed the idea was lacking when it came to implementation.

I would not include any FF TDs in this for the sake of transparency and a complete break with the corruption, incompentence and sheer arrogance of the last 3 governments. That includes Brian Lenihan who i believe is blinding people from his lies by virtue of the fact that he is a good public speaker in comparison to the likes of Biffo and that parasite Ahern.

It was proposed by us at the start of last year. Here's hoping they lift the rest of the policies! I've serious doubts they will ever see it through though, too much internal inertia.
