    I'm a DCU alumnus and hadn't used my DCU mail account very much. To be honest I thought I'd logged in more recently than six months ago but when I logged in today I saw that the system had changed and all my old messages are gone.

    I had a load of people I contacted for my thesis 3 years ago saved on that and I hadn't copied them over until I needed them...ie now and they're all gone!

    Could DCU not have contacted us on our alternate emails to let us know?

    There were loads of e-mails sent out from DCU saying they were switching over to Google apps.

    And how do you expect DCU to keep a track of everyones alternate e-mail addresses?

    Maybe you could try contacted ISS and asking them do they have a back up?

    Sorry to hear you lost your contacts, but there was plenty of notice.

    I honestly thought I'd checked it since September...couldn't believe it this afternoon.

    Regarding alternates, it's pretty standard for any email provider to have at least one alternate email to forward details to. DCU have at least two other emails for me.

    Will get on to the ISS but not very hopeful. Am gutted over this :(

    On the one hand while they did provide a lot of warning to users, they did do it only via the DCU mail system, so if someone hadn't have checked their mail for quite a while beforehand they wouldn't have seen them.

    Surely ISS have backups around somewhere. If not, they're not that great of an IT department. And it's not like there was a huge amount to backup seeing as we only got 20MB...
