Things to do when you're small and you like cars

    Hello there,
My nephew (6) loves anything to do with cars. He's a dote, he still wears a Cars pyjamas he got for his birthday two years ago....miles too small for him!
I would like to take him to some kind of car museum. Are there any around the Leinster area? Failing that, what car related activity (driving on the main road excluded :p) would you like to have done when you were six?:)
    thanks

    I used to collect dinky's.

my nephew wrote them all off subsequently - but it was fun while I had them.

Take yourselves down to Mondello park for a spin, and you should see some sights.

Imagine being that young and hearing the roars of the cars and bikes!
My motor lust was quenched every year at the spring show in the RDS, not sure what happened to that.

Maybe you could take him to a vintage show during the summer, its a good age to start him. I remember my uncle had a bright yellow Escort 1600 sport when i was young, think it was the start of my interest in cars!:D

Some great ideas! I never even thought of Mondello, and there should be loads to do during the summer. I promised I'd take him out this week, I'll have to keep in mind these ideas for when the weather gets better.
He has a good few dinkys, might take him shopping for more to add to his collection.
    Thanks everyone :)

Would he like the Howth transport museum? Near the DART and lots of old buses, fire engines, trucks etc.

The worst I ever had was four cars, none roadworthy, all at my grandmother's place. Good to know I'm not alone!

+1, was there a short while back, the place was crawling with kids and they seemed to be having a ball.

There are several classic car shows in the leinster area during the next few months.
    Just a few are,

    18th April Durrow show ,Laois
25th April Cill Dara old vehicles show, Curragh Race course, kildare
20th June, Classic car live, Mondello, Kildare
    4th July, Terenure show, Dublin
    18th July Trim show, meath

Most will have entertainment for kids as well.

there's a show on in Tipperary Racecourse (Limerick Junction) this sunday coming. Might be a bit of a spin but it is something to do this week...

Thanks again everyone. The car shows look good and luckily most are on my doorstep (not in 'an old cars in the driveway' kind of way-careful now :p).

I think it'll be a trip to the National Transport Museum this weekend then
