i did it 2 summers ago around europe for 2 weeks, only wanted to do a short time as it was, like yourself out of my comfort zone, was a bit daunting the first few days but after that i enjoyed it being honest.

The last 2 times I've gone travelling, I went on my own.

3 years ago, I went for 2 months, and a few weeks ago I came back from a 5 months stint.

Not only would I say it's acceptable, a good idea, I actually will only travel on my own in future. I loved it THAT much.

Seriously, the amount of people I met that I wouldn't have had I been travelling with friends/girlfriend is huge.

Also, there are MANY others from all countries who are travelling on their own as well. Seriously, no one even bats an eyelid at you when you say you're travelling alone as so many others do it. I have a couple of good mates now who are in my life because of having met them travelling. And I doubt I would have met them had I been with friends.

Oh yeah, you'll pull more on your own as well :)

    Just do it.

+1 to most of that. It gets you out and about more and gives you way more flexibility to follow your own agenda. The only place I've ever felt awkward is in Italy - Italians tend to eat in large groups at night so you can stick out a bit amongst the tables full of extended families!

I was in the exact same position before I went travelling, I'm about 7 months into my trip to cantral and south america now and what can I say but in the end after all the bricking it, it was really easy.

Look into what bag, clothes, equipment etc you might need for the place your going. Sort out your money and learn the basics of the language (nice vague advice for you there) and just go. The first dorm of the first hostel you arrive into will probably be full of solo travellers also, you wont be alone for long.

Go for it. I'm 2 and half months into my Solo RTW trip. I can honestly say it's the best thing I've ever done. It forces you to meet other people and socialize. Book it and get out of Ireland. Drop into trailfinders and they'll set you right. Don't get too caught up about seeing the whole world. Be as flexible as possible, pick a few destinations and go from there.

Unless you're actually buying a round the world ticket I wouldn't bother going into trailfinders.

You can buy your own ticket on the net if you're just going to one region e.g. south east asia.

But if you're wanting to go around the world, then buy a rtw ticket.

Most people who start travelling out on their own anyway will meet a group and just tag along with them. Kinda defeats the purpose of "travelling alone" IMO. A friend of mine started out on his own. Sure after a few days he ended up travelling with the same group of people for nearly his whole trip.
But if you're an outgoing person, unlike me, then you'll have no problem travelling on your own.
