Inexpensive razor and blades

Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong place but maybe someone can help me out.

I've been using a razor that uses those wilkinson sword protector blades.
Now i need to get a new razor but tesco don't seem to do razors that work with these blades anymore.
They do the wilkinson quattro (i think?) razor but the blades for that seem to be a lot dearer than the protector ones.

How interchangeable are blades for razors- if i got the quattro razor would it take the protector blades.

Basically i need a razor that will accept reasonably priced blades (wilkinson or gillette i don't care tbh).
    Any suggestions.
    Thanks. :)

You're going to get one answer here when it comes to cheap blades, and that's a suggestion that you go for a safety razor, many posters that frequent this forum greatly dislike cartridge razors.

So i'll get the ball rolling, have you thought of using a double edged razor? the razor itself will be a little expensive but you'll get a pack of 5 blades for about €1.99. check out shaving.ie Chris is a regular poster here and he does great deals, along with very prompt shipping.

I switched to DE/safety razors early last year for shaving the face and will not be moving back to the Gillette or Wilkinson cartridges.

I also shave my head daily and tried all the different offerings from Gillette/Wilkinson and the supermarket own brand.
Have a look at the Gillette Sensor razor and blades, the cartridges are much cheaper than the other multi-blade
razors and as it only has two blades it doesn't clog as easily or cause irritation like the M3/Fusion.

A few years ago I went back to the old style two-sided razor having been p**d off with the disposable razors clogging up no matter how much you rinse them. The razor was bought in a well known brandname drugstore cheaply and the blades were easily obtainable in packs of five.

    Thanks for your help.
I know you're right about this stuff but for the time being i don't want anything too fancy.

I'll take a look at the gillette fusion mentioned above.

I'll consider the other options as well:
With the safety razor, you just buy blades, not cartridges is it?
And it can be one or 2 sided?
Do the blades last a lot longer than cartridges or something.

    Thanks.

They're 2 sided, hence the name double edged razor blade, you'll get about 3-5 days out of a blade, depending on your growth. so if you shave 5 days a week then you'll get 5 weeks out of a pack of blades for €1.99, also if you use a proper shaving cream or soap instead of goo in a can then you'll shave for 6 months with one tub of soap for around €15. Shaving cream goes a little faster, I ordered a tube of proraso shaving cream in December and just getting to the end of it now, probably have another 2 to 3 weeks left in the tube (it only cost €6 on shaving.ie)

The most expensive parts are the razor and brush, so razor could be anywhere from €15 to €100 depending on what you're looking for. and a brush will set you back around €20 for a decent badger hair brush. initial outlay may seem steep, but you quickly realise how cheap it really is on a long term basis.

If you buy DE razor blades in bulk you can pretty much get a years supply for about 15e

All the above mentioned by foinse is true but you are probably more likely to `nick` yourself with the old style razor,at least until you get used to it. It is a personal choice in so far as how long you get out of a blade by turning it ( it`s down to how many times a week you shave, growth rate and toughness of your growth) but as I only bother to shave twice a week, I`ve got a couple of months out of one blade. I was given a gift set at Christmas which included a Fusion razor and,but for the hassle and cost, was amazed at how good it was. Wires instead of traditional blades, perfect shave first time, and no clogging. Give it a try.

I am happily using Tesco blades which cost about €1.99 for five and I use each one for three days. Your main investment will be the razor, brush and soap. Go to www.shaving.ie for those. I bought my equipment in the UK and paid a lot more.

Your next step is to go and use a straight razor :D.

I recently got a 5 pk of 3 blade in tesco, can't remember the brand. But the words 2blood transfusion" came to me after shaving. Dumped them pretty quick. paid 2.99 I think, so I got what i paid for. Crap. :(

3-blade from Tesco at €2.99? You got what you paid for. But their DE blades work very well.
