    Hi Guys,

Thought i'd share this, i've used Autoeurope quite a bit and they've always turned out really cheap ! :)

User them in France, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK and never had a bad experience yet.

An example would be i've rented a car for an upcoming weekend in April:

Car Class - Ford Fiesta or Similar.
    Pickup Friday 4.30 pm
    Dropoff Monday 11.00 am

    Total Cost : EUR44.15 :) ..

And thats in Total, including the 28 Euro Airport Surcharge.

Checked how much it was direct (with Avis) and it was just over 60 euros excluding the 28 euro surcharge !!

    http://www.autoeurope.ie

You just print your voucher and present it at the Car Rental company.

Compared it to Carhire3000 also and its about 6 - 7 euros cheaper

I have also noticed that if you are booking a flight with Aerlingus that the Hertz car hire price via them is very competitive.

Eg Ford Foesta for 7 days August 14-21 in Lisbon is €138 the closest we could get to that was carhire3000 for €200

so worth checking it out as an option

any suggestions for Cheap Car Hire in Orlando , pick up on I-Drive (not airport) ?

+1 for the Aer Lingus / Hertz route.

I searched everywhere for 10 days car hire from downtown Nice, France in late June, including the two sites mentioned above. The best price by about €40 (~10%) was the Aer Lingus / Hertz combination.
Ryanair/Hertz combination did not allow a downtown Nice pickup

Going to Disney - Paris (Beauvais airport) in June for 6 days and looking for a 7 seater. The cheapest one I can see is the Citroen C8 7 pax for 679.19 EUR!!

Any other recommendations for cheap car hire or cheap shuttle buses from Beauvais to Disney?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 116 ✭✭pelemcg

    I only used them once.
    Utter nightmare.
Car wasn't available, nor was any alternative. Took four months and my bank's intervention to get a refund.
Would avoid like the plague. Not worth the risk for the saving.

Ring Avis in Cork during office hours and haggle for a better quote.

I'd like to recommend http://www.arguscarhire.ie/ whom I've used a few times recently for rentals in Spain and Portugal, and found to be very competitive (Irish too). I'd also recommend www.insurance4carhire.com who do annual excess policies for less than you'd pay for a few days excess waiver from a rental company, also includes glass and tyres which many rental companies sneakilly don't tell you aren't covered in their excess waiver.

Hi, im 25 and need a 6 seater as I have two daughters and the in-laws are over for a few days and it seems like the easiest way to get around. Now that I am doing the research I see that 25 isn't enough, I have to be older for larger cars. Anyone know which companies may be more helpful for a 25 yr old needing a 6 seater? thanks.

Compare all the big boys here, when you find the company with the best quote, check here for extra cash back / voucher codes. Only way to do it.

Budget Car rental are probably the only company that will rent to young drivers.

Hi do you have some close up photos of that car? If so I want to see it first before renting it. :D

Thinking of booking a car for 8 days in portugal in sept and going for the excess insurance which works out at 44 euros with argus & mondial assistance, do the car rental company also take a deposit off your credit for insurance excess, heard stories of companies taking 1300 deposit, refunded on return of car for insurance excess... see below quote form www.

Avoid ALL Excess Charges for just €5.50 a day!
Most car rental companies charge an Excess. if you have a claim - typically you pay the first GBP 1,000 or so. Also, most policies issued by car rental companies don't cover windows, tyres, undercarriage, roof or loss of keys.
Excess Insurance gives you complete peace of mind for just €5.50 per day. The policy will cover up to €3,000.00 of any excess; it can be used on any vehicle type and if we can't confirm your particular vehicle you can use it with any rental company so you won't lose out.
Please note: Excess Insurance is billed separately on your credit card statement.

Axa will do an annual car hire excess policy for just over €56 - worth it if you are going to hire over ten days/more than once a year.

As a bonus, getting this policy will also give you access to Axa Plus which gives discounts for policyholders on things like Aer Arann (10%), KeyCamp (up to 15%), Stena Ferries (10%), 5 - 10% off some of the tour operators (Sunway, Panorama, SunWorld), 10% off car hire (fronted by them), and lots of others (Atlantic Homecare, Woodies, DID, Meteor, Halfords, schoolbooks.ie etc), and also a 20% discount of the next year's car hire excess policy (bringing it to about €45 per year).

And no, I don't work for them - I have the policy myself (though never had to use it, thank God!).

Grand yoke and had an input for my iPod too :)

If anyone is renting in Spain, I can highly recommend http://www.hispacar.com/ I used them last year after reading good things about them on the internet and I got a cheap, clean and grand little car for a couple of days hire to attend a wedding.

I am looking at renting again this year for a longer holiday and their quote is coming in at anything between 25% to 50% less than the competitors.

If looking at car rental sites, it can be worth checking different country sites, eg. I've just booked a 7 seater for Orlando in Oct for £325 on autoeurope.co.uk while the same car was over €600 on the Irish autoeurope.ie site.

I watched in horror on Friday afternoon in a London airport as Enterprise car rental refused to hand over the keys of a hired car to an elderly couple who had booked and paid through autoeurope. The reason given was that the lady had paid for the car with her debit card but the husband was down as the driver. I had no idea that the card holder has to be the driver. That rules them out for our trip stateside next April as we will be requiring two cars and I can't drive both of them!

Thats down to the local company and is specified at the time of booking, its different for each country so you need to check unfortunately, E.G:

    http://www.europcar.co.uk/EBE/module/render/terms-and-conditions/online-booking-terms-and-conditions
The credit card holder (in case of a prepaid booking) must be identified as the renter (the "Main driver" to be mentioned on the rental agreement). Such person must present his/her credit card (identified with the same name) at time of "Check Out".

    Also:
    - Debit card(s):

Warning: Debit card(s) are NOT accepted at time of reservation or rental except:

    - "Visa Electron" card(s) that are accepted for online payment at some rental destinations.

Warning: Customers who do not possess any other credit card in addition to the "Visa Electron" must ensure their account holds sufficient founds for the deposit to be charged at "Check-out"

This is re-iterated on the terms and conditions attached to the voucher.

Sucks though ... happened to me once where the Company required the address on the driving license to match the current address.

Are you charged also per mile / KM driven in the car as a hidden extra?

I use argus car hire all the time. I've rented about 10 times this year. They've even changed bookings for me to a company I'd prefer (on the site you can't specify the rental company in the airport). So I book it online, see what company I get on the e-mail, then call their call centre and ask them to change it over. They'll even give you the discount if the other company was cheaper. I've had nothing but good experiences with them.

Do be careful with the Mondial excess coer though. You have to be living about 150km from the place of pick up for it to actually be legit. Also you'll still have to provide a deposit on your card if you take out a 3rd party excess cover.

I also bought annual excess cover insurance for rental in Europe with Axa for €58. This means I am automatically covered for the excess on the car I hire. I still have to give the car rental company the excess on my credit card, should i crash the car they will keep that and i have to get it back from Axa.
