I'm going to Northern Ireland on Saturday for 2 days, 1 night. Have a hotel in Belfast booked so will probably see Belfast on Saturday and then things like Giants Causeway on Sunday.

I've never been before, Can anyone give me tips of what to see in Belfast and then just in general for the Sunday. All I know about is the causeway and the rope bridge....

    Thanks

You seem to know what you want.

    Belfast.
The Crown Liquor Saloon and a similar cheaper pub Robinson's are across the road from Europa Hotel. (Europa Hotel has its own history).
Belfast has a number of connecting laneways in a paticular area called Entries some of the oldest surviving stuff in Belfast is in these laneways.
There isn't many but there are old pubs down in them too.

The Zoo is good, built into a hill and has large enclosures, underwater viewing for those penguins, Chipanzee is a big family, Elephants + rhino house and the large walk-through avary.

The hill it's built on is Cave Hill? and there is some marked walking here from The Zoo. Even on a 'soft day' you should be able to pick your along the paths.
You''l need to get a city bus or your own transport due north of the centre. City buses mostly depart from the from sides of the Donegall Square.
The Linen Hall library is around here, it's an small old building you have public access too.

People will want you to do a 'Black Cab' tour. Taxis in Belfast were segregated and left from their own ranks to specific parts of Belfast, also I understand, the Falls Road had a shared hail and ride economy for passing taxis. The tour will pick up from a number of hotels/hostels and bring you round some of the mural areas of Belfast. You will might see a change in the environment in some of the places.

That celebrity chef with the trans-atlantic accent, who is married to a North American, Restaurant begins with "R",I think.

The Golden Mile was the stretch between the centre and the University Area. University Road, Botanic Avenue are out this way. I think it was 'Golden' because the economy did better out here. Students, leafy area near-by (maybe one leafy area!). Just more people knocking around helped the area.
The Empire is a famous comic venue "The Empire Strikes Back" was a regular TV show, P. Keilty and a few others played there and moved forward up the ladder.
Eglantine and Botanic (the EGG and BOT) are two Pubs that face each near Windsor Avenue ( it's possible to look down on a part of Winsor Park from the Avenue), I think I've only been in one of the pubs after a game. It's alright.

    North Antrim Tour.
If you can find an itinerary that includes Giants Causeway, Bushmills Distillery in Bushmills village, Cushendal and Cushendun (?) two small seaside towns in the Glens of Antrim, and past through some of the Glens.

N.I. Tourist Office is on Nassau Street in Dublin 2, they'll give you a great A5 sized map of Belfast, centre and outlying, front and back. including bus routes. I hardly have to open my mouth in Belfast with this map. Except when I'm pointing to the Tennants or Harp taps.
