I always pressumed most "now-a-day" digital cameras had a night vision function?

I found this http://www.videomaker.com/article/8666/ which may help. its a review of a sony night vision. Abit pricey but Im not sure what your range for money is. Hope it was somewhat helpful.

Many cams have a night mode, which is in essence semi-night vision. The CCD wont stand up to Gen1 standards but they do work well with emitters. Thing is that the emitters are two tiny LEDs that only illumiate up to 2' in front of the cam, but if you buy an IR torch you should be able to see to a decent range. Thing is it will also blind other NVs.

Loads of camcorders have a little lamp like the bit on the front of a television remote control or Nintendo Wii controller that'll do that, you won't have to break the bank to get it and there's plenty of options. I made this a few years ago with a refurbed Sony Handycam from Amazon that doesn't seem to exist for sale anymore. There's some artificial light obviously but 100% darkness otherwise, and of course there'll need to be some light to play airsoft by so it's probably comparable. At ranges further than close at night though you won't see anything unless it's lit itself.

No problem, any excuse not to study:p

Thats an old cam still using tapes, I'd go for something with a hard drive/flash memory over miniDV tapes. When you record to tape you spend the same amount of time ripping as you do shooting the stuff. Its also only 620p and suffers from scan lines :| Sony are good but you do pay for the badge and they rip you off for accessories(you get nothing with the cam bar the charger).

Dunno if this info will be useful to you or not but Cyalume do a range of IR products.

    http://www.cyalume.com/intmilitaryproduct3.php?item=3&pic=1

You'd have to buy from retailer outside of Ireland as I haven't come across anyone selling the IR products here.

This may have been covered as i didnt read the comments above but you could always stick a IR bulb into a fair torch and it would work like a charm!

hey Brian if you are looking for a camcorder that has night vision the shop on th quays across from garden of eden. i was never there i swear lads:D:D. well they sell second hand stuff too and if you ask they can source stuff for you. ask for a camera with infrared capability which will give you the green glow at a good range. and camera will have a small amount of night sight but infrared works like a proper night vision if works by sensing the infrared scope of the spectrum not the visible light we see normally. its not that high tec its just a camera thta can se infrared instead of visible light ad of course it has an infrared light built in so it shines out for the camera to pick up. hope this helped
