    Help a brother in arms...

Back story, i broke down last night, on the M50, as my car overheated. I checked the radiator water, and there was none, turns out there is a hole in the radiator... So i managed to get a tow to the sandyford industrial estate.

I live in Galway, so im stranded until i manage to get this sorted.ive been ringing all morning looking for the part i need..

This is where you come in.

I need you to help me to find a radiator for a '00 ford focus, 1.8 turbo diesel. Everywhere i've called wont have it in until Tuesday at the earliest, i need it TODAY.

Even second hand, refurbished. Even breakers yards. Now as i say, im literally stuck in south Co Dublin without a car, so travelling to breakers in the northside is pretty much impossible.

So basically, im asking you to call any mechanics/breakers yards you know... Can anyone help?

I cant remember all the company names i've called but these are the numbers i've checked so far

    012804177

    018213446

    014909550

    014934605

    014506226

    018246492

    012804177

    012955011

    012163600

Can any kind boardsie help a brother out? BTW i cant pay more than 300 for parts and labour inclusive

Could you plug the hole with Chemical Metal or the like just to get you home?

That may be an option... i've never done that before. And i've no idea how big the hole is, as i cant see it

If you can find the hole then it'd be a quick, easy temporary fix. I'd watch the coolant level on your way home, though.

The hole is at the bottom right of the radiator.. Is this an external or internal patch?

when i was a kid we broke down on a long journey home after the radiator leaked all its contents out.

we were coming through some tiny one shop village and as an emergency measure my stepdad ended up refilling it and then cracking an egg and pouring the egg white into it, with the idea being that as it heated up it would cook the egg white and it would eventually make its way round to the leak and plug the hole.

luckily it worked and got us home. he obviously had to replace the rad after that (which he most likely would have done anyway), but he's a mechanic so it wasn't that big of a deal.

i can't say i'd recommend doing it but its a handy one to know if you're really stuck and desperate out on the road and there's a nearby shop. or an obliging chicken. :)

Surely someone in Dublin repairs rads.

It's external. Have a look at this: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_223979_langId_-1_categoryId_165691#dtab

It's not a permanent solution like RoverJames's, but it does have the advantage that it should get you going today, without the need for removing & replacing the radiator.

are you sure theres a hole? did you try filling it? is it a hise thats gone perhaps? fill it and find out where it coming from...if its a small hole, radweld will do it temporarily. Have you breakdown cover on your insurance? This should be a quick fix i feel
