It's my first time posting in this section of motors. I present Motor Mouth on Newstalk 106-108fm.

I've posted the following in our sticky (available here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055819950)

"As it's the bank holiday Monday we'll be looking at Classic Cars. Our phone guests will be editor of Irish Vintage Scene, Tom Heavey and one of the organisers of the Durrow Vintage Show, Austin Ryan.

If any of you are interested in classic cars or want to get involved with them feel free to post your questions here."

Let me know if there's anything you want asked etc.

    Regards,
    Daragh

Try not to mention the 30yr classic Motor Tax/VRT exemptions - in case someone from the Dept of Finance is listening. ;)

Will tune in if I get the chance!

Have to admit that I try to avoid Newstalk - mainly because of a the "constant recession doom" it broadcasts over the airwaves (and a certain ex rugby coach who drives me nuts !)

That said, Tom Dunne and the football lads are very good !

Right, newstalk rant over...classic cars rant starts....

    - classic cars are just a way of hiding our obsessive compulsive disorders and calling it a hobby. Some are lucky and manage to turn it into a business. :D

    - why are so many pre-80s cars still on UK plates and not registered in Ireland since it costs only €48

    - Why is the classic car insurance more expensive in Ireland than in the UK

Big fan of Off The Ball, too. :)

btw, Daragh - I work in the Newstalk building as of last week (am there now)!

You could mention the whole "what constitutes a classic?" debate (outside of the official rules). The answer more than likely being whatever you consider it to be... One man's trash etc.

^Hes right you know....best description iv heard of yet!

How about a programme on the intricate workings of the pre 1987 irish registration system?

On second thoughts....maybe not,i think the listeners would all fall asleep and crash their cars...:D:D
Though a debate on why the current five digit ZV system is a bit rubbish wouldnt be out of the way.

I hope you ask the hard question from the organiser of Durrow show.
I have heard stories of a five hour wait just to get out of the field.
Have they learned from last year?
Will it be the same nightmare again?
Why not change to a venue that works?

I'm told only cars prebooked will be admitted,My guess is that alot may turn up that do not know this.Does that mean drive into the field and then get turned around and drive back out again.
If i go this year(which i would love to do) i may park in the Village and walk out.
It's a great show, but a lot of stress involved when you should really enjoy it.

Limerick junction raised nearly 30K for charity last year from their show, where does all the Durrow money go?

Will Austin Ryan have to worry about any traffic at all in Durrow this year?

Yes my brother did not know about the pre booking of durrow. He was there last year and had planed to go this year but is giving it a miss.

When is the show on? Is it a special on over the weekend or just the normal monday night show?

Think i might chance as visit to Durrow having heard Tom from Irish Vintage Scene on the show this evening.
Sounds like they may have the traffic problems sorted.

I am taking a "wait and see" approach! If it works this year I might consider going next year!

Agreed. I got stuck again last night coming through Abbeyleix so until the new motorway is open, I'll wait and see how this year's event goes. To be honest, I think dodging fresh cows***e and an uneven field never had the same atmosphere as wandering around the Castle grounds. It just got too big for what was a lovely venue.
