Any current players here able to recommend a bat for me?

It's been a while since I've played, last bat I had was a Tibhar Offensive blade with Mendo Energy rubbers.

I liked that bat but I broke the blade not long before I stopped playing and was using a Donic with the Mendos on it, never got a good vibe from the Donic. So I don't want to use the Donic and I'm sure the rubbers I have a well past their best :)

I'm sure Mendos are long discontinued now so what is a good allround rubber and offensive blade?

Also can anybody tell me the current regulations on glueing and tournament play?

Not sure about the bats, as I quit a few years ago, still have my bat though, it's has stiga neos and mp super defense on a nitaku blade, on topic though I don't think you are allowed use speed glue anymore.

Tommy Fitzgerald seems to be to only supplier in Ireland so I may have to buy online if I want something outside Stiga and Donic

Just saw this and wouldn't mind buying that but not sure I can justify the expense, I am quite hard on blades and also it'd probably be way too fast for me if I'm only playing twice a week

I heard that about the speed glue alright, I think you have to glue 24 hours before a tournament too although rubber technology seems to have come along to take this into account

There used to be a another fella who always sold mainly tibhar and some others but I can't remeber his name, he used to come to all the tournaments in Munster anyway

Yeah I remember him, he was at the Leinsters too, tall grey haired man? Used to have a woman with him too iirc.

AFAIK Tommy took over selling at the tournaments

Ah yeah it was Ted! :D He used to sell an awful lot of crap too though. I remember buying a few tins of this Joola speed glue, it was green but the ball went off the bat like a bullet. Used to only last an hour or so, so in the tournaments I'd be glueing all day

You're right in saying that speed glue is no longer around, however the new rubbers being made are just as quick and quicker. New technology all the time.
I'm currently waiting on the arrival of a new bat myself. Mendo energy rubbers are still around alright probably aroung E25 a rubber.
Its hard to recommend a rubber or blade as I don't know your style.
Are you an aggressive player on forehand and backhand, topspin loop, flat hit etc. I had a look at the blade you mentioned, that I'd imagine would be like a rocket. The problem with such fast blades and rubbers are how you handle services. If you struggle with serves then trying to return a great serve with such a fast bat can be difficult. You can still get incredible speed without paying over the odds.
Another poster mentioned Neos as one of their old rubbers, I used this for two years and won individual and team honours with it. I loved it, very very fast, its available in Neos Sound, Neos Tacky and Neos Standard. There are faster on the market but you don't always need the fastest rubber, its what feels right.
Personally I like an all-round or offensive blade, fast forehand and a more conversative backhand rubber, reason being you'll find a lot of players like to get into a chopping rally and its good to have a rubber that has the control and the ability to unleash a winner too.
My entire bat worked out at E105

I called over to Tommy today, he would have been fairly familiar with my style and recommended a bat for me.

I got a Donic Senso blade, Stiga Boost TC red and a Magna black.

The Magna is a little slower than the Boost and just gives me that bit more versatility. Had a knock with it tonight and was quite happy with it, the boost was a little quick for me tonight but I know in a few weeks I'll be looking for something faster :D

That blade I linked to above was really pie in the sky, it's something I'd love to have in my bag but I couldn't ever see me using something so aggressive in competition.

What bat are you running yourself at the minute?

Good choice of bat, Donic blades are lovely, I used Magna on the forehand for a while and liked it, I know a guy using Boost at the moment, he is coach and he only plays with dynamite rubbers:Dso you can be sure its one of the fastest around.

My bat arrived today, Blade is a Stiga Tube Carbo, Forehand is Carbo Sound 2mm and Backhand Carbo MC 2mm(maximum control). Will be trying it out tomorrow night for the first time, I'm especially looking forward to testing out the backhand rubber, could be perfect for me(I hope).

I'm planning on some intense training during the summer when everyone else is playing their summer sports:P
