I just dont know what I am going to do. I have seriously messed up my career. I once wanted to do teaching and so applied to the CAO for the course on my Leaving Cert Year which I failed to achieve miserably on my first go. So I decided to to repeat my leaving cert and studied my hardest and came short on my second go by 15pts. I was gutted so I went on and did a BA and then went on to do a MA in history(longer route). However as I finished my MA, I had a change of mind and didnt want to do teaching anymore. I had mixed thoughts and felt It was not for me. I have done other part time courses also and I still havent found a career that I want to undertake. I work as an operator at a local factory at the moment and eventhough I'm extremely lucky to have it, Far too many people piss me off and basically mock me about my degree. Anything that is historically related and they are down my throat expecting me to know it eventhough I may not. They have a right laugh at me which is unfair. One lad said that I had no sense of history with my degree and that I was good at nothing and have alot to learn. He also mocks me as I'm single and that eventhough im 25 (going on 26), He said you will have to get a move on now and we will have to find you a GF . (I've never had a GF by the way). As a person ive low self esteem, low confidence, feeling more depressed, I feel like all these things must be true. I have recently developed a drinking problem and feeling suicidal.

Some people just take a while to figure out what they want in life. My parents both went through several career changes until they found something they liked but they kept plugging away. Keep trying new things and keep yourself open to new options or ideas.

And as for not knowing everthing in history even with an MA that would be a ton of information. I am sure you are very well informed in the area of History you studied. I would think it would be impossible to be an expert on the entire course of human existance!

Please remember that you are not defined by your job or your OH. If you are feeling suicidal please talk to someone. It might seem hard to talk to anyone face to face but it can be a big help.

I hope you are feeling better soon.
