The title says it all really. Im after a wekend/sunny day car.I have pretty much narrowed it down to these two models, At this stage im kinda stuck in each have there pro's and con's.

The Supra is just an iconic car, the gt4 is a bit balls out kick you in the head type machine.

The tax really don't bother me, insurance aint an issue.

So what would you go for ???

I much prefer Supras myself. Never really liked GT4s.

Supra all the way, kind of rare on our roads.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,461 ✭✭✭--Kaiser--

Definitely the GT4, would handle better than the Supra and they're not slow off the line either.

I'd say the Supra is more of a cruiser, the GT4 more of a drivers car.

Out of interest which Supra, N/A, Twin Turbo?

If its a TT Supra then go for that, the GT4 is like a cruiser as well so you might aswell go all out and get the Supra as a more powerful more iconic crusier rather than its little brother the GT4

    Supra TT hands down.

supra, but only because I think that generation looks just wrong.
Only thing that would put me off a TT Supra is tax, but if that's not an issue then you know what to do.

Twin Turbo Supra for sure...much better looking than the Celica, probably more fun to drive (cant comment too much having never driven one) and also the Supras are a pretty rare car to see on the roads too.

GT4. I've no use for a 10 second car, but I do live in an area rich in special stages...

    Supra Supra Supra! No contest

Thanks lads, its pretty much 50/50, im having trouble getting a TT for my budget, but plenty of gt4's

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,660 ✭✭✭Blitzkrieger

I had a GT-Four for years so I'm a bit biased, but I'd go for one again over a Supra. I've never seen the point of being fast in a straight line and the Celica is much better in the corners. They were the best handling of the WRC cars at the time and you won't find much that would handle better without electronic nannies.

You said tax and insurance don't matter to you but the Celica should be cheaper for both. In terms of fuel economy - the permanent four wheel drive in the Celica will cost you.

I'm surprised you can't find a TT Supra. When I was buying my GT-Four (years ago) there was plenty of Supras around for less money. Insurance wanted 4k though...

Stage 1/2 supra bought through the owners club would be my way to do it.

With petrol prices crazy here and in the UK you will pick up a very good manual TT Supra for not a lot of cash.

Went and looked at a GT4 today, i think ive decided on going with a gt4, just not the one i looked at, no timing belt done, EML on more than likely a MAP sensor and it could have done with a set of valve stem oil seals. I did'nt even drive the thing.Oh and he wanted 4k

Its hard to find a decent one at decent money, if anyone knows of one please link to the ad.

GT Four all the way i got one wit three years, bullet proof. I would advise you to get a Uk spec one. Twenty bhp less but will have a more legit service history.

    Supra = Massive Kudos
    GT4 = Mini kudos

Id go with GT4 unless Supra was a TT.I had a N/A Supra before and would have a GT4 over one all day long. There 2 heavy on juice compared to as GT4

I can't understand how you could possibly consider a GT4 over a TT Supra apart from financial issues.

This stuff about only being good in a straight line is nonsense.
The factory traction control in TT Supras is shlte but most have been fitted with aftermarket Race Logic Traction Control which is excellent.

    Here's a ridiculously cheap '93 TT Supra, it's going for €3,800.

I've had an M3 and a GPX FTO in the past but the quickness of the TT Supra is on a whole different level.
When you're not used to them that 2nd tubo kicking in can really catch you out.
For what you'd pay for one you do get a whole lot of car.
Irish tax on a 3.0L is far from cheap though and as for insurance...

ridiculously cheap but she's an auto

I completely agree with Armin on this, the Supra is a better car in so many ways! The only Jap car I like more than Supra's are Skyline GTR's, at that it would need to be at least an R34!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,648 ✭✭✭knifey_spoonie

Oh i agree, i would much prefer a TT Supra but finding a decent one is hard. That one for 3800 is seriously dodge. Going to look at another GT4 this weekend, she kinda ticks all the boxes, i wait and see tho. All ill say is superstrut aint cheap, i dont want ot have to go and replace arms.

    Thanks lads, keep em coming

I've heard reports that the guy selling that Supra is genuine though the price is a bit crazy.
I wouldn't be put off by the fact it's Auto either.
The Auto box in those cars isn't like an automatic in a family runaround.
You'd do well to accelerate as fast in a manual plus the Auto box has a Manual mode, though it's pretty pointless most of the time.

GT4s are great cars IMO, I just wouldn't consider one over a TT Supra.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,648 ✭✭✭knifey_spoonie

Oh im sure an auto box is as quick at grabing gears, as a manual.

Im more for the celica at this stage, i dont really know if i could handle a TT supra it would probally just try to bite my head off, thats is me biggest worry with one, not enough driving experience.

This video says it all really tho

I love that video but to be fair that car's running at about 1000BHP with a single turbo conversion.

Could work if your job doesn't require alot of space for tools

EDIT: I mean the whole commercial thing, not that exact car

There's a thread about this over on midnightclub.ie
A couple of people have already successfully done this with Supras.
Can't see the local Gardaí being too impressed though.
Even if they technically can't do anything about it they'll damn well have a good go.
Issues may arise though about using the vehicle for social, domestic, pleasure usage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,917 ✭✭✭B00MSTICK

I'm sure the Gardaí wouldn't make too much of a fuss as long as you aren't driving like a wombat/hanging around with scumbags

Of course if they see you cruising around after 1am all the time then they'd have good reason to have a go.
No offense to the Midnight club crew but seeing as they seem to have meets and go on cruises often, I'm not sure if it would wash at all.
Also seeing as its such a large club the chance of a few bad eggs showing up and attracting unwanted attention would also be a major deterrent.

Just thought I'd throw it out there in any case!

I was thinking it must have had a NOS kit installed. A normal TT can't accelerate anything like that

Another thing to consider is the glorious sound from the straight six in the Supra.
So much nicer than a 4 pot.

Here's a nice one. Just needs a nice set of wheels and a TRD spoiler.

Had a '94 SZ-R years ago. Fantastic car.

what a problem to be faced with what to get a supra or gt4 so very very jealous, personally have driven both not owed them though the supra was the most comfortable place ive ever been and as was said earlier that second turbo kick is quite a kick,gt4 is awesome as well looks class when well done and performance is good for a 2.0l,i wud have the gt4 but only cos of tax, insurance, petrol costs but that super strut can be a bitch once it goes
