Days after I said to loads of people in a room that Apple should do an "iPhone Pro" as a separate product to the iPhone, just like the macbooks. I should have blogged it and earned some google adsense cash :p

A thinner iPhone would be nice.

    apple - simple product line.

Why would they release more versions of iphones?

There's a story out there on the internet. Apparently Jobs, when he came back to Apple, went up to a whiteboard in a meeting and drew a line down the middle. Over the left column he wrote 'regular' and over the right column he wrote 'business'. And since then there's been a clear distinction between those two versions of every product: Macbook and Pro, iMac and Pro. Now that the market is big enough, there might be room for an iPhone and iPhone Pro.

The iPhone seems like an exclusively consumer device though. Everything about it is designed around it being such. I'm not sure what they could add to a second model to make it appeal any more to business or "pro" users.

    Central Control.

    Blackberry has the BES

    iPhone has nothing.

The reason for two models is simple: GSM vs CDMA networks, a bit like Bluray vs HD-DVD. Apple will want to have a piece of both cakes and be in a position to make lots more money. Verizon in the US have around 90 million users on a CDMA network, there are also large markets in India and China to be tapped. There have been rumors for at least 6 months that Apple were going to launch an iPhone for the Verizon network - Apple Insider, November 2009

This is really important for corporate use. The company I work for won't consider iPhones as replacements for Blackberries until there's a mechanism whereby they can remotely wipe them if lost or stolen. Sure, an individual can currently do it through MobileMe, but the IT Dept need to have the ability to do it centrally for security's sake.

Now, I don't think this feature requires a new "Pro" iPhone, but it's a feature that's badly needed to break into the corporate market.
