I'm currently a iPhone 3gs customer (bought one with o2 in July/August). I was wondering that presuming a new iPhone comes out in the summer will I be able to upgrade to the new one and move my contract onto that one. I don't mind paying extra/extending the contract by another 18 months.

    Like €600?
I'd be better getting a sim free one at that rate.
