Job...

    Right,

So i applied to a graduate program a while ago, after various stages I was offered a job.

It is a fantastic company and normally I would of been over the moon.

However... the job they have offered me is not the job I applied for.

It is an international job, as in 3 year graduate program spending each year in a rotation with a different job in a different country.

The job I applied for had the same rotation/job system, but in ireland.

The job is also in a different are to which I applied.

I do not feel I have any interest in the area I've been offered, but the company on my CV would be insane.

Am I mad to consider rejecting it?

No, you're not mad to reject it.

What age are you? Are you single? Any children?

If I was 22, single, no kids, no responsibilities, and knowing what I know about our economy and the future of our economy, I would take the job.

Also, you might love living abroad, and might be thankful you took the job.

I'm 21 and in my final year of college, would be starting job in september.

I have no kids or marriage etc... Have a very long term Gf who is doing a Masters in Ireland next year.

I guess it's just not how I foresaw my future.

Plan was always work a couple of years in Ireland (2 or 3) and then move away to states and work there, same as my Gf.

But more then that, it's not a job I want...

Should I let that stop me? Is the job so important?

Like I do not want to stay in that field, so will gaining experience there be of any use?

If you don't take the job there is a realistic chance you could spend 12+ months unemployed.

So it all depends how important earning cash is for you right now.

Take the job. It is a great opportunity to further your career. It'll also be a great adventure and learning curve. You could spend the next year unemployed with no money. You will have make chances to see your OH.

TBH, I would put serious thought into taking a job I wasn't interested in.

A couple fo things to think about are:

If you take it will you do a good job at it or would you just do the minimum due to your lack of enthusiasm?
If you get stuck in this job/position - in 10 years will you look back regretting the decision?

Give it some real thought and don't feel pressurised into taking a particular course of action. Hope it all works out for you.

Take the job, it's madness not to. I'm in final year of college too and have no jobs on the horizon.

If you really really hate it you can quit.

But as someone else said, it's very possible that if you don't take it, the dole awaits.

    +1
I know it is scary out there and tempting to take any job regardless but I don't think it is fair on yourself or the employer to take a job you won't like irrespective of the economic climate, yes you may end up with no job but equally you could get a job you want. Also you can get experience through an internship, volunteering etc so taking this job is not the only route to getting experience. I would weigh up all your options because you could end up stuck in a job you hate, which will affect your level of happiness and quality of life, I have seen so many people grab at any job in desperation and live to regret it. Also remember you will be doing this job for 40+ hours a week, that is a large chunk of your life gone there.
