    Hi there,

In today's Irish Daily Mail there was an article on an Irish vineyard called El Comandante in Argentina.

Has anyone tried it at all - is it any good?

Havent seen them in about two years. They were nice, especially the malbec, and reasonably priced too in the €10-€13 range.

I heard the story recently... the guy was a Commandant in the Irish army and it didn't look as if there would be much chance of promotion for quite a while so... he took retirement, set up his vineyard and called his wine "El Comandante". It's supposed to be pretty good but I haven't tasted it.

Yeah. The poor man died in 2008 after a short illness. His son Tom now runs the business and is doing a great job if the website is anything to go by. Loads of independent places stock it now.

Agreed. It's improved a lot since introduction, the current vintage is surprisingly robust and complex at the price point.
