Ok so i am with my boyfriend almost 3 years, and last night he told me he eventually wants to go travelling for a year or to, i can understand why he would want to do this if its gonna make him happy and i would never ever stand in his way or try stop him from going as i really do want him to be happy, it just left me wondering should i bite the bullet and end it now or wait till he decides on his date to leave, i dont really want to go any further and have to face the heartbrake a few months down the line its gonna hurt like hell either way but what is my best option??

Is there any chance the following could happen?
    - You travel with him
    - You dont break up while he travels
    - You play it by ear on his travels and try the long distance thing

If there is no chance of a relationship either during or after the year then end it now, the torture of knowing the end date is coming nearer will damn near kill you.

    Hi there,

I'm really sorry for your situation - I take it you cant go with him or he has'nt asked you.

I was in the same situation two and half years ago (we were together 2 years). I had been through a lot of stuff on the home front so left my job, girlfriend etc but obv leaving and telling the girl was incredibly hard to do.

I still loved her but felt it was time to travel now or never....massive decision. Anyway I decided and told her the same thing you have been told by your boyfriend. She stuck with me for 2 months until the day i left but in hindsight I know now it was too much for her...she should have taken the opportunity to split.

I'm very sorry cause reading your post it brought back some very dark memories....I never regretted travelling for obvious reasons but for me i realised in my time away she was not "the one" ...I think she did too.

    Best of luck.

He hasn't asked me to go along, i got the impression it would be with friends, i do love him and thats why i wouldn't ever stand in his way of going i truely want him to be happy and i no this would be a great experience for him, i dont think the long distance would work out
i think your both right i should end it now and try move on i'm going to be heartbroken one way or another might as well get it over and done with now :(

I'm so sorry Little D, I think it would be the right thing to do aswell as long as he has decided he's definitely going.

If he has'nt asked you to go - its not to say that he does'nt love you back as much...He is probably concerned about the pressure involved to bring a girlfriend and this may be something he wants to do by himself (granted friends may be there too).

My truth is that deep down I was confused but i had a gut feeling it was something I should experience on my own and so i never asked my own gf who could not go anyway due to work commitments.
