Requesting Linux on Dell Studio

    Hi,

I'm just wondering has anybody here ever asked Dell if they could ship their laptop with Ubuntu instead of Windows? I want to get a laptop for work so Ubuntu is being put on it anyway

I just reckon that if I order it with Ubuntu it should save me some money since windows doesn't need to be installed on it. Anyone have any experience with this?

    Thanks

I don't think it works like that unfortunately; I doubt you'd have very much chance of getting money knocked off for not wanting Windows pre-installed, especially with a company like Dell. A single licence would cost them very little.

You can't request a laptop to be shipped with Ubuntu, unless thats already one of their options.

You can however just reject the Windows EULA at startup, and request a refund in lieu of the Windows licence. You get a few quid back, 30 or 40 quid maybe. Put Ubuntu on yourself.
