Installing Windows 7 in safe mode.

My friend is currently having a severe problem with her computer. Everytime windows starts up, and when the desktop appears, it freezes. For the past two weeks she has had to use safe mode, and its driving her nuts.

    We have already tried:
    Fixing Registry using CCleaner
    Removing junk files using CCleaner
SUPERAntiSpyware (always freezes on Google Chrome files strangely enough)
    sfc/scannow
    Disabling all startup processes.

We don't know if it is a damaged file or a virus.

She wants to install Windows 7 as an upgrade, but safe mode won't let her, and normal booting just freezes.

    I have 2 questions.
A: Is there a way or bypass to install Windows 7 Upgrade in Safe Mode?
B: Is there another solution to fix this computer?

    Thank you in advance (:

    Whats the original operating system?
What make of PC/laptop is it?
Does it have a hidden drive with a back-up of the system on it, do you know?

You might have to re-install the original once again if possible.
Then to upgrade, take the usual "insert installation cd/dvd route"

Start the Computer Normally. When it gets to the desktop press Ctrl+Alt+Del - you may have to wait a while - and load the Task Manager.

In the processes Tab, see what is eating up all of the system resources. Write down the same of the .exe and then kill it.

Original Operating System: (still waiting for info)
PC Model: Packard Bell imedia X2416
System Drive: (still waiting for info)

She doesn't want to lose all her files though :/

I've asked her to do that. I'm just waiting for a reply / result.

If there was no way to export the files she wanted saved to external media, as a last measure I would partition the present drive and copy (NOT cut and paste for safety reasons - till I was sure they copied across successfully) her files over to that new section and then go about reinstalling the operating system again to the original "C" drive.

okay, i've come up with a theory.
apparantly, google chrome seems looks to be the source of the problem. The virus scanner always freezes when it scans files from the chrome folder.

    BUT...
we have tried deleting it using one a program called Revo Uninstaller.....failed.
we've tried putting it in the recycle bin....failed and froze computer.

any ideas? :) its wrecking my head :L

*Warning* some PC's only have whole disk images so the second partition might be toast after running the recovery

    External drive is best bet

turn off the daily scan on the AV for a while to see if that affects it
