usb key issue

so i bought a lacie iamakey 8gb usb drive

worked fine

then i wanted to install linux mint and use it as the inital boot drive for linux so i used a programme which would format and install mint onto the usb key

i couldnt get the installation to work so wanted to formt that key back to being a regular usb key

i used disk utility to erase and then format the key to have no partitions and formated it fat32

it works fine on my mac

but when i try and use it on a windows machine the windows it says drive not formateted do you want to format now

after a few tries i jsut clicked yes and it formatted a 200mb partition and left the other partition alone. the windows machine now only sees this partition and my mac sees both

i thought formatting as fat32 in disk utilities was all i had to do?

i can read and write from both partitions in mac but only read and write the smaller one on windows

I had this problem last week and the solution is this. Format the entire drive as mac os journaled and forget about fat32. when you plug it into your windows box it will ask if you want to format and you can then format the whole drive as fat32.
