    Hey,
itunes is prompting me to download a carrier settings update for my iphone. Would this tamper with the jailbreak at all? What are the updates anyway, because it's been popping up for a couple weeks now and I haven't bothered with it yet but my phone has been working fine. :pac:

    Thanks

Just an update to your O2/Vodafone settings. Can be for tethering/mms etc.

Won't mess with your jailbreak. Update away. Just be careful not to update the iPhone software.

If I accept it does it mean the phone is now locked to vodafone as currently i can change the APN and once this update is applied then that option is greyed out.

i'd say ur phone is locked to vodafone anyway, the carrier file is more than likely for tethering so thats why the apn isnt configurable

    Lads,

Why should you update your carrier settings with itunes. If I leave it the way it is Vodafone/O2 etc wont know if people are therthering or not if the APN is the same for normal internet use.

Is there any benefit to this update???

I'd like to know as well.

I have a factory unlocked 3GS not from vodafone and have updated the carrier specific settings.

I'll be travelling to the Uk and was hoping to use a Uk prepaid sim for phone and data. Will this still be possible? Is there a way to undo the update?

    Thanks
