Going to France for two weeks in June. Landing in Rosscoff.

We stayed in a park in Benodet last year.
We want to go a bit further south this year.

Going blind from reading reviews on trip advisor, just when I think we have found a place that looks nice, I read loads of reviews complaining about the place .

Looking for a park, not too far from the beach, about 3/4 hours drive from Roscoff, peaceful, clean, no major road noise or amusement noise, good food available on or near the camp.

    Any recommendations ?

3-4 hours drive still leaves you in Southern Brittany - maybe Carnac? Les Menhirs or La Grande Metarie are the most popular campsites in that area. Otherwise, you're looking at a 5 hour drive to the Vendee to somewhere like St. Jean de Monts

I booked Le Bois Dormant in St. Jean de Monts yesterday on the advice of a friend who has been there before.

    Thanks for your relpy.

We stayed in Bois Dormant a few years ago, the kids had an absolute ball, good choice :)

Good to hear. Counting down the days now.

Originally only wanted to drive 3/4 hours, but my friend told me it would be worth the extra drive. They did it in 4hrs 40 mins on the motorway.

We're back from our holiday to the Siblu park, Le Bois Dormant, in St. Jean de Monts, Vendee.

Very nice mobile home park. Quiet, even though it is a large park,
(645 pitches) although you don't realise how big it is because of the way it is set out.
Siblu own the park, but own only about 40 of the mobiles.
The rest are privately owned. These private owners pay a reduced yearly fee for the plot and services to Siblu if they let Siblu rent out their mobiles when they are not using them.
Some owners never rent out their mobiles, some only in July and August.
Starting to get busy as we were leaving.

It is a 5 hour drive from Roscoff, driving at between 55 to 60 MPH.
Update your Sat Nav if you have it a while as there are a lot of new roads in the last hour of driving.
Very nice friendly and efficient staff made up of english speaking French, English and at least two of the pool life guards are Irish girls.
The nationalities staying at the park are either French, English or Irish.
    Very friendly people here.
The majority of the people staying here seem to be retired couples or couples with you families.

There is a toddlers pool and 2 larger pools, plain and simple but they do the job. Base of toddlers pool seems to be padded. Two slides in the toddlers pool here as opposed to only one in the sister park across the road.
Indoor pool in the sister park, but too deep for unaccompanied children.
The patio slabs surrounding the pools could do with a revamp. Plenty of lifeguards on duty.
Toddlers pool is closed at 6pm, the other 2 pools are closed at 6.30pm, which I think is a bit early.

Selection of goods at the on site shop is quite small, but has the essentials, milk, bread and croissants. In our first week it was open only from 8.30am to 11.30am, 8.30am to midday on our second week. It may be open for longer now as it is July. Larger shop and longer opening hours in the sister park across the road, but depending on where your mobile is situated, it could take 5 mins or 25 mins walk to get there.

Take away on site is fine.
    Chips - E2.20.
Chips and 2 hotdog type sausages - E5.50.
Also breast of chicken, full cooked chicken, pizza's etc.
Not many eating in the restaurant/small bar, same kitchen as the takaway.
Restaurant/Bar bigger in sister park. We went their one night, 2 starters + 2 main courses + chicken nuggets and chips for child + 3 orangina's - E58.

Washing machine is E6 a pop. It was hot, so no need for the dryer, (E6).

The town centre is more like a village and has a nice church.
Fantastic promenade and beach are more like something from a much larger town, looks new, plenty of parking.
Plenty of bars and restaurants off the promenade.
Two big supermakets and a Lidl on the outskirts of the town.

Rented out one of the 4 wheel bicycle/buggy things, great fun and plenty of cycle lanes to use it on. E6.50 for 30 mins, E10 for an hour.

Went to the medieval theme park Puy du Fou. It was excellent. Live shows, period costumes, brilliant special effects, Vikings, Gladiators, Knights, animals and birds of prey in the shows, plus small villages from different centuries to walk through.
    Bring hats and sun screen.
In July and August there are night shows also, starting at 10.30pm and are supposed to be even more spectacular.
Two hour drive east, tricky enough to get there. Adults - E30, under 5's free.

Went to the wildlife park Planet Sauvage, a bit like Foto in Cork only you drive around and can feed the animals popcorn from your car.
Also excellent. Adults E19, children under 5 free.
Pick a cool day if possible. 55 min drive north east, near Nantes.

It was very hot during our holiday 28+ degrees most days, unusualy hot for June according to some residents we spoke to. We liked the mobile/park/area, but about 6 or 7 degrees too hot for us and won't be taking a chance next year and will be moving back to Brittany.

    Satts,

Delighted to hear that you enjoyed SJdM & the campsite - I recommended it to another friend who is back about 2 weeks and they loved it!

How well equipped were the mobiles? We normally pack the kitchen sink for apartment holidays as I find the s/c equipment is way below what I'm used to (I write a food blog so love to cook every 2nd night when on hols).

Planning to head to Planete Sauvage so glad to know it's worth the trip.

7 weeks to go & Sat Nav has already been updated with all the new maps & places we want to visit

As 600 of the mobiles are privately owned, the equipment is going to vary alot, but should all have the basics and extras according to which level you have booked.
I guess the stuff would probably be the same standard as the stuff in the apartments you have been to. I suppose you will probably want to bring your own favourite items.
My Misses insisted on using our own cuttlery and ware, even though the stuff there looked fine.
There seemed to be enough pots and pans to get by with.

The produce at the local market looked very good. Part indoor, part oudoor. Not sure what days it is on or how many days it is on, more or less finished by lunch time.

Piped gas on site, so I guess all cooking will be gas.
We had 4 ring gas hob and oven, didn't try the oven, hob wasn't the fastest.
Did a bit on the barbecue, as it was too hot inside for cooking.
Most seem to be gas barbecues with room to put charcoal under the grill.

    We also had a microwave.

We didn't have a washing machine, but nextdoor did, depends on what the owners put in or remember to take out and hide before they leave. But i guess if it was mine, I would hide it too.

Not many mobiles seem to have aircondioning there, so if its not listed on your booking, it probably won't be in it.

We had a fridge freezer, only fridge last year (different park), which was a big plus.

Most of the mobiles have decking, and most of the deckings have a covered section.
