I currently have UK satellite tv with the full sports package etc. My girlfriend is from catalunya and wants us to get a few channels. I am aware I cannot do this through the UK sky dish. I dont want to fit another massive dish on the wall would the small portable dishes work o.k? How do I know what direction to point it etc. What equipment do I need? As I am in Belfast Maplin would be close. Can anyone give me a link to a good setup and everything I need to get the tv?

You need to point a dish at 19* East. Spanish TV is on that one. I guess she will know herself if shes happy with whatever free to air stations are available. Otherwise, pay tv is provided by digital + - she would have to get a subscription and receiver from them back home. Its a pretty good package for english speakers two -as movies and series also shown in original audio as well as spanish.

On 19E you will get TeleMadrid and TVE as well as a number of other channels from Spain, although some of these broadcast in the local regional language rather than Spanish. You will also get a range of radio stations. All FTA.

30 west would have more spanish channels but you will probably need a 80cm or bigger. Look up lyngsat.com and she will be able to see what's available for free on both 19 east and 30 west

TV3 CAT is Catalan channel FTA on 19E and 30W.

If your Girlfriend is Catalan she will recognise this channel.

TV3 would be the main channel she wants. I am in two minds to ditch my sky as it is mostly repeats anyway. My neighbour has a sky dish could I hook my box to it without disrupting any of the two subscriptions (obviously with his permission) then change my sky dish for 19e to plug it into a receiver for Catalan tv? Or do I need a completely different set up. I want to see what options I have.

if your neighbours dish doesnt have a dual/quad LNB you would have to replace it so that you would have a spare connection you could use.

You would probably need to pick up a second reciever too (Sky boxes dont work well/at all with other satellites) but a cheap one (c £30) one would probably do

I don't mind spending a bit of money for a receiver for the 19e channels. I just don't want another dish outside so if I could use his then either use my existing sky dish with a receiver for 19e is that an option? Or would I be better replacing my existing sky dish and getting a new one for the new receiver?

To get a dual/quad connection what do I need. Sorry I really am clueless on all this.
