What kind of damage? Did you drop it, is it physical damage?

It sounds like it's dying. Does it only play for a few minutes after you charge it before going completely blank? The black lines were coming up on mine too. Happened 3 DAYS after the warranty expired. I dunno if anywhere cheap will fix it here but I brought mine to the Apple store when I was in NY, they did a 'diagnosis' on it before putting it into a little white plastic coffin (seriously). it was very moving.

They gave me the same model for half price (3rd gen nano), which was pretty nice of them. I think these things weren't built for a long life, i'm afraid.

What iPod was it, how much did you pay?

You might still be covered under the sale of goods and supply of services act 1980 (assuming you bought it in Ireland). That states that goods must be of merchantable quality and last a reasonable amount of time.

Depending on the iPod and how much you paid, it could be reasonable to expect it to last longer than 2 years.

That sounds like the battery is bunched to me. I had a Classic with a fading screen, i got a battery in Maplins for €15 in Galway.

I used the plastic tool that it comes with and a steak knife to open the cover and took out the battery and put in the new one.

    Worked perfectly after that.:)

No personal experience of them myself but I've heard Mactivate in Blanchardstown are great for Apple problems, they have a lot of refurbs and might be able to help you?
