my bikes not changin gear help

    i was out in ballinastoe over the weekend when i noticed my front mech wasnt changen i took a look and found that the derrailour was mouvin but was not chanin the chain on the cassete theres loads of slack on the cable (not to much)2 lads from bray wheelers told me it was my bottom bracket that it was too short
    any body any solutions (i bought the bike secondhand and thinkn bout bringn it back to the shop)

    first off put the lever in the low gear position ,then loosen the 5mm allen key or 9mm nut which attaches the cable to the front mech ,pull the cable hand tight and retighten the fixing bolt and see what happens you will not do any damage

    Really stupid question I know but since I've made this mistake before I thought I should ask - is there any mud/twigs blocking the dérailleur from fully descending?

    If that's not the case then check out http://www.sheldonbrown.com/derailer-adjustment.html specifically the section on the front mech lower limit screw.
