Bookies taking the p...

I went to the Curragh a couple of Sundays ago and was amazed by the blatant 'robbing' of punters. 20 mins before the off time for the last race Encompassing was 11/8 with ladbrokes on their betting screens. Reiteration was a 2/1 shot and it was 12/1 bar the two. I went out to the standing bookmakers to see if there was a bit of an each way steal if something opened shorter on track (I would then go back in and back it with Ladbrokes if longer). Captainofthefleet opened at 8/1 and I saw a few nibbles on him so I went straight back in to Ladbrokes to put an each way double with Captainothfleet and some 6/4 shot anywhere (for those who dont know, you are not allowed to do any 'singles' at the Curragh on any horse running at the the track). On track, Encompassing was a 2/1 shot with Reiteration at 9/4. When I went back to Ladbrokes Captain had been knocked down to 8/1 alright........... but Encomp and Reit wr still 11/8 and 2/1 on the screens!!! and remained this way for a further 8 minutes. If they claim that their shows did not 'kick in' until a certain time then this would be fine except for the fact that they knocked Captain from 12/1 to 8/1 18 mins before the race. I have been in a bookies recently wr I have seen special doubles being given about horses running within the following few mins and the bookies giving, what looks like, very generous odds based on the morning prices and what happens?? at least 1 of the horses opens at a much bigger price than anticipated. Now when I see these special doubles I turn to the lads and say "betcha €20 that the price of the double will be more on opening show then what they are offering on the special"...... and 9 out of 10 times i'm right.

My point is..... Don't take ANY price on any horse 20 mins before a race. The bookies will be well informed by then if anything is too long odds wise and anything that opens longer on track will be left at that price as long as possible to get the 'mug' money

As a large backer of Captainofthefleet starting 1 hour before the race, my records show the biggest price I got was 10s (with an independent) - I cannot be certain but I had a number of people backing the horse for me and I would be amazed if the magic sign were 12s all along and I got none of it.

Are you sure you were looking at the right market?

100%...... 12/1 with Ladbrokes 20 mins before the race. The 2 jollies and 12/1 the field on screen with them. The first move was 12/1 -8/1 and then all the way down to SP. Your runners wr keeping a little for themselves;)

Maybe it was 12s, it still have my doubts but anything is possible with Ladbrokes.

As if to further confuse things, I reckon that you could not have got bigger than 10/1 after 5 o'clock and no better than 7/1 after 5:15 on betfair (when he was still apparently 12s with Ladbrokes). I'm fairly sure I had amounts unmatched at those prices around those times. Surely even Ladbrokes would not be in the business of laying 12s shots e/w when the boys could have laid my dough at nearly half that! It still sounds like a mistake, maybe even on their part.

As I said in my original post I went in to do the 'each way' steal and they had knocked him from 12's to 8's whilst leaving the jolly at 11/8 when he was available at 2's and better.......Im never wrong... ask anyone on this site;):DYou wr unlucky not to collect. If he had of settled better early on I think he would have won
