Post hole borer/auger for sheep fencing?

Just wondering out of curiosity, has anyone ever tried a one-man or two-man petrol-powered post hole borer or auger to make holes for posts for sheep fencing, to be tapped in with a sledge afterwards? Is it possible to make, say, 5 inch diameter hole and hammer in 5 and a half inch posts without them being loose? I generally find it hard to hammer them in deep enough when just making a hole with a crobar. Contractor not being considered on this occasion.
Also, I have to dig holes for trees for planting under REPS. I plan to use the same machine for this purpose with a larger bit.

    Cheers

Funny Saw one of these being used today by the contractors for the new motorway and was just thinking to myself how handy they looked.

Let us know how you get on if you do try it.

    Anyone tried this?

You won't have too much choice of bit sizes. Four inch would be standard. Used a six inch two man job for potted hedging last year. Worked well. Each hole done in seconds.
