Jobseekers Benefit and a Supplementary Income

I'm on Jobseekers Benefit at the moment, I am a qualified BER assessor for over a year and have done one Assessment. I done the course with the intention of doing any assessments in evenings/weekends as a little supplement income. Now that I'm not working I'm going to try and drum up a bit of business.

Anyway now that I'm on the JB, if I do an assessment where do i stand in regard to tax and affecting my JB? Surely for the little money involved it shouldn't affect my JB.

Maybe this should be in taxation forum, mods can feel free to move it

I'm on Jobseekers Allowance so I don't know if JB is different, but last year I managed to get tutoring work one evening a week in a VEC for 8 weeks. Although I worked evenings and was still available to work during the day should the opportunity arise it made no difference. I lost a day's benefit for the two hours I worked.

I think ANY income earned affects the amount of benefit you receive. Which is why some part-time jobs which are spread over 5 or 6 days are not financially viable for unemployed people because they may earn less than they receive on benefits BUT because they are not available for work, they loose their benefit.
