Jailbreaking 3GS ON 3.01: redsn0w or purplera1n?

I want to jailbreak my factory unlocked 3gs on firmware 3.01,
should I use purplera1n or redsn0w? If there's no difference, purplera1n looks to be a lot more straight forward.

thanks for the reply, but the only reason I want to jailbrek is for 2 cydia apps: re-supported and landscape tv out, thats it, so I think purplera1n is the handiest, only problem is when I go to the purplera1n site, theres no option to download and it says 'use blackra1n instead' but thats useless to me aas Im on 3.01!

any idea? Thanks

ok I treid blackra1n, it said it worked(pop up box) but it clearly hasn't...

I have also tried to restore to 3.1.2 to use blackra1n bit itunes will not allow..

basically I just want to jailbreak but it I cant find a trusted download for purplera1n anywhere..and I cant use redsn0w or blackra1n as itunes won't allow me to restore to any software version other than the current one, which can't be jailbroken!

help please..

I found purpe rain easy to use but very buggy. Back in the day I restored and then jb using redsnow. Haven't had a problem since

Purplera1n is Geohots 1st ever jailbreak ( after leaving Dev Team) it buggy as hell .

I would pick redsn0w everytime over purplera1n and blackra1n .

You asked for advice , I gave it ...If you wanna it use it is up to you .

ok advice taken, thanks , used redsn0w. However, for some reason the cydia app has taken on the look of my jelly sms app! still called cydia, but has the image of jelly sms..no big deal tho, still works.

Seen your now Jailbroken the best piece of advice I can give is back up your ECID SHSH files on CYDIA .
You may have already done this when you installed Cydia ...Can you remember hitting "make my life easier" during the Cydia install ?
This is the ultimate backup and will get you out of a hole if you have problems or Apple catch the mouse

If you are not sure if you have , do this ...

Open up Cydia and tell me what it says at the top of the window , or better post your Cydia screen here.

yep I did press the 'make my life easier' button, but it immediately returned a long error message, however, at the top of the cydia home screen it says''this device has SHSHs on file for iphone OS .13''

Your sorted ..

Basically if your phone needs a restore you wont have to restore using the Apple iTunes server (updating and rendering your jb useless ) you can now fool iTunes and use Cydias server .
Heres some instructions for future use :

Also if Apple ever release a "un-jailbreakable" (what a word) you at least can always use a jailbroken version if 3.1.3 , again using CYDIAS server 'v' iTunes.
