Was down in the ould Lidl earlier and they are advertising there new movie post service, it seems quiet good, 23 eur for up to 3 movies per time max of 24 per month with free post both ways.
Has anyone tried any of these postal movie services?
Is it worth it because it look good.

I have been using http://www.screenclick.com/ for the last year, can't complain, excellent service and price, plus they are an Irish company, none of your furreners coming over here and taking our jobs/wimmens/houses ;)

I've used screenclick in the past I didn't think it was worth it I wouldn't be going through enough DVDs to make it worth while. Then I got broadband and it became completely redundant.

I was subscribed to that site for a while (unlimited montly) but I found (like every online company these days it seems) they treat you like a king for about a month or two then the service takes a remarkable dip in quality.

How it works is you basically make a list of between 25-100 movies that you want them to send you and then rank them in terms of your preference. In theory your favourite choice will come 1st , then 2nd favourite and so on and this is the case at the begining. Then however you'll find it's the low end stuff on the list that you're recievinig and things that you leave at #1 will never arrive - even several months later!

Screenclick also had a slow turnaround on postage and had a habit of advertising stuff for rental that they didn't even possess. I even caught their customer support rep out in a lie and that's when the final straw broke and I cancelled my contract.

I've heard this is the standard model worldwide for these postage companies so I don't imagine Lidl will be any different if you sign up.

(You'd be better off spending the money on broadband).

Im pretty sure this is just Lidl "piggybacking" off Screenclick. AnPost do the same with their Rental service.

I get ones from screenclick. I find that they always send ones that are wayyy down my list of preferences, possibly something to do with them having feck all copies of the films I want to see as they are fairly obscure.

The service is alright, I've had the same 3 dvds for about a month now though as I can't find the time to actually watch them.

I signed up recently but not received any films yet. Handy now that Chartbusters on Headford Rd has closed shop.

I think its hands down the handiest nd quickest service to use.. Rapidshare lost it's appeal with their actual restriction.. 80gig cap.

I thought 'The Postman' with Costner was crap. 'The Postman always rings twice' wasn't bad.
'Il Postino' remains a personal favourite, however.

Do the Postal Service do any of the soundtracks?

Of course not, the internet's not about paying for things.

So your slagging off a pay service because you havn't paid. Your point is fairly mute to be fair.

Now, click the above. If you click the very result as a premium member, that will download a Leftfield album for me without leaving Google.. And you say Mega is ruining piracy? yea.

Interesting.. I looked it up and it's supposed to be "moot point". Not a meme.

I have been using LM service for almost two months – I’m running it in conjunction with lovefilm service to compare. As of today (Thursday) I have not received any disks from them for a week. For a 3-at-home package, this is very poor. Having spoken to them 3 times, I was first told it’s due to an internal technical glitch. However, as of today, the lady called <snip> (who’s probably the rudest call centre employee I’ve ever spoken with) told me there are no internal problems or delays and it’s all Royal Mail fault. What’s worse, I’m unable to cancel my account as, according to LM, they did actually post my disks on Monday. Needless to say, lovefilm have delivered 6 disks during this period.
Two pound saving per month really does not justify switching to this horrible, horrible service from Lidle Movies.
    AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Not really interested in any of these services until there's on demand streaming. Until then, Zune marketplace on the 360 is more than enough for me.

You are better off with a streaming service. I have LoveFilm and they provide a streaming service along with their DVD rentals. With the streaming service you have the movie instantly, no waiting for Post or until they have stock. The only downside is that the streaming service quality is average, on a par with DVD quality. Hopefully they will provide a HD streaming service soon.

I joined lidl movies a few months back when there was a special deal on of 20E per month for three movies at a time.

Great service, very quick turnaround and loads and loads of films to choose from. I thouroughly recommend it.

    :)

There's none in Ireland though is there? Can you get a UK Lovefilm suscription over here?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

I used their service for a year without any trouble at all. Left only because I started using streaming instead.

Hmmm sounds like a good service but I'm a loyal enough guy so I'm gonna stick with torrents :D

Not sure, I thought they were EU wide as they are now part of Amazon.
