Hi - I want to buy an electric shower for a standard 3 bed semi.
I've heard Triton are good but have heard Mira are quiter (which would be nice in the am)
Has anyone any advice on what to get and where to get it?

    Really appreciate it

It depends on what shower you want.

Do you want a pumped electric..... T90/Mira Elite 2

    Electric T80

    Power: AQUASTREAM

I am guessing its the pumped electric. Neither is quite but both are good.

Click on the link in my signature for more shower information or elese just ask away/

ps if you want to go with a quite shower... a company called newteam produce a shower with a snooze button to keep it quite however this is a power shower so you need to have the hot water stored.

I have a Mira Elite ST. I got it because I believed it was quiter than the Triton unit (which is also a particularly ugly unit, and I'm very vain anyway). The first one only lasted a few years (I'm sorry I didn't keep the receipt). I'm on my second one and it gave some problems recently but seems to be o.k. now.

My folks have the the exact same model, and they have had the repair man out twice within the first year.

That's my experience for what it's worth.

You did not say what was wrong.. Or the conditions. Is it an area of hard water for example.

I have been supply and fitting mira elite and triton T90 for years. There is no difference in them they are both an excellent shower. Tritons tend to be a little cheaper though.

My water is very soft (the inside of my kettle is shiny after several years use).

I had a Triton UNPUMPED shower and I had it for approximately 15 years when I decided to replace it with a PUMPED shower. So I went for the Mira unit (the Triton unit was still working perefecly). The Mira unit lasted for a few years. It became extremely noisy, plus some of the external fittings were broken. So I decided to replace it rather that pay for an engineering visit plus parts. But I made sure I kept the warranty for the second one. I didn't realise how noisy the Mira unit had become until I installed the replacement unit (I could now hear myself signing in the shower).

The second one has been working for just over a year. I've cleaned the filter once or twice (the newer Mira unit has a bigger filter that can be opened with your hand). Recently it gave some trouble (the temperature was not controllable). I removed and cleaned the filter again, but this was not the cause of the problem. It sorted itself out and is working fine now.

The folks unit, on the other hand is an an very hard water area. The first time the engineer was called out it was sorted by cleaning the filter. The second time the unit was passing water even when powered off (I had to get them to isolate the water supply). The engineer was called and it was sorted under warranty. They also had UNPUMPED showers installed previously, and they all lasted several years, despite the hard water.

So in summary, I would class the reliability of the Mira unit as being in the lower end of the scale.

Your just unfortunate. dont take my word for it though. Just google mira elite. Its a very good shower. So is triton. However I fitted a mora elite because I consider it to have the edge but thats just my opinion.

Below is a review I posted on Amazon regarding my experience of a Mira shower I bought from B&Q
(It was cheap 112 euro special offer inc a 20% discount)
I await a reply from MIRA

This review is from: Mira Go 8.5kW Electric Shower (83BGF82)
I would give a Zero star if that was possible.

    Ok the good points were.
Its well finished and the rail, showerhead and hose are very good quality.
It came with a 2 year guarantee (thankfully!!!!!)

    Bought in Jan 2013.
1,Jan2013 Once commissioned, it heated the water when Low was selected, Supposed to be unheated.
Service engineer called and replaced the Switch Assembly.
2,Aug 2013. Would not switch on.
Service engineer replaced the Solenoid coil
    3,Sept 2014, Shower operation intermittent.
Service engineer replaced the Flow Regulator Assembly. (on/off micro switch had discolouration).
4 Oct 2014, The on/off which is part of the Flow Regulator Assy will not engage in, The shower will not Switch on.
I await a call back on this and have requested a full shower replacment.
I will buy Triton next time, Far better service life.

I have two Mira Elite installed in the House. One 20 + years the other 6 years. Never had a problem so far with either.

Ok, I can't really fault their customer service.
Service guy arrived yesterday and replaced the on/off switch.
    Now works fine.
I am just worried that when the warranty runs out that I will be left High n Dry!
Hopefully the may replace the unit as it has given so many problems.

You've just been unlucky. Mira are the 2nd best electric shower manufacturer (triton being the best). The main problems with mira are the white plastic casing is very cheaply made. It turns yellow very quickly & is very brittle. Mira spare parts cost close to twice the price of triton parts so this makes repairing mira showers very expensive.

My own opinion is that the case, shower rail and head are very well made.
I must have got a bad one.
In any case I will contact Mira Ireland next week and see what the service engineer's report says.
Maybe its good for 10 years now, but I am apprehensive.

It really is such a shame that all White goods manufacturers get away with charging so much for spares, but I suppose thats another Thread.

Wish I had seen this earlier. I had a Triton T90 for about 12 years, no problem and then replaced it with a Triton T90Z. While it works fine, it can be heard in all rooms in the house !!!.
We have ALL solid walls and a solid slab upstairs and yet it can be heard everywhere. The T90 did not make this noise nor does a Mira pump I have in another room. Its only 2 weeks old and Triton dont want to know and wont take it back. Id go for Mira any day.
