    Surprised this hasn't been posted.

    FAS course details
The Job Training Initiative, which was managed by Fas, had a budget of €39 million in 2008, when 46 people completed the programme. However, a new government report has recommended ending the programme as soon as possible, as it could not be sure if anyone was benefiting from the scheme.

Only 46 people completed the course and it cost them/us €39 million?!?!

Should've just given the trainees €1m each or just pay them €35K a year for the next 30 years. Would've cost the same amount.

Yea that's mad, it cost 900,000 per person, they would have been better off just giving them the money and let them live off the interest...

I think FAS should be just disbanded at this stage, I was trying to fill some positions a few weeks ago and they wouldn't answer the phone as they were on a work to rule, there a national disgrace.

    that's shocking.
how can a state body with a €1 billion annual budget get away with this carry-on for so long. It's a pathetic reflection on the gross ineptitude and blind ignorance FF have shown while in government.

makes you wonder why a body with the functions of FAS had a budget of 1bln in a time of near full employment?

...and the ineptitude of the public servants working in FAS, devising these hairbrain schemes.

First class flights and hairdos in hotel rooms cost a lot of money.

yeah i seem to recall half the staff of FAS flew first class to florida at some stage to wine and dine themselves and take the tour of the kennedy space centre.

i also recall Mary Coughlan received a garda report on FAS last June and ignored it until September when it was released on the same day as NAMA.

didnt a car disappear that was meant to be for some prize!

I just hope they don't take anything to do with training for the 'smart' economy.

No no no that car was Roddy's and brightspark coughlan agreed that mclooney and the lads should give it to roddy seen as the poor leading light public servant that he was had to resign.

BTW you do know coughlan was reading the dictionary or was it the thesaurus at the time and learning bizspeak.
of course she also had to complete the Dummies Guide to the EU.
