Can anyone tell me am I the only one very disappointed with GTA 4? I know it's been out awhile but I just felt like asking. In my opinion GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas were much more fun. What do ye think....

Well I can't see how it'll be any better cause it's the exact same game but with new characters. Ok it is meant to be a bit more fun than the original GTA 4 but all we're getting next month is the new episodes 360 got 3 months ago:(

San Andreas was the most enjoyable game i've ever played. fact! GTA 4 was relly disapointing i didnt even bother finishing it. ahh the good ol' days when you could tap a few bttons and a fighter jet or jet pack would appear before you:D

It's not a new game out in April, it's the two DLC packs for GTAIV that are out. They're the same DLC packs that were availible earlier for the Xbox version.

I think GTA 4 is in the same vein as GTA 3. Its as realistic as they could make it. Vice City and San Andreas just went balls to the wall then. I havnt played the 2 add ons but I'm assuming they add a bit more fun to what you can get up to (are there parachutes in them??)

I completely disagree with you. I think GTA 3, VC and SA were all good fun nd the driving was more fun and there was generally more chaos. I think they went too realistic with GTA 4 and forgot why the series has become so successful in the first place.

In the second addon for GTA4, The Ballad of Gay Tony, they have gone back to the crazy off the wall madness to some extent. I enjoyed that more than the main GTA4 storyline. While the realism is still there alot of the fun has been put back.

how come there out on disc if there meant to be DLC bit pricy too for DLC 30 odd euro

Because not everyone has an internet connection with high download caps. That and the fact you don't need to own GTA4 to play these, these addons are stand alone products.
These are good quality addons and the price of €35 is worth it alone for the Gay Tony addon.

On the 360 the DLC from Live did not have the new radio stations they were only on the disc version.

Not everyone has online ability or can't buy dlc, so they slapped them on disk to help sell more copies.

    Edit: ninja'd :(

Totally agree, I sold my copy of GTA4 having only completed aobut 60% of the game. I just got bored with it. Took itself far too seriously. I miss the kill frenzies, the ability to do more before the cops get involved etc. Bring back the original GTA :D

So they can sell more? It's two seperate DLC packs, 15 euro each, sounds about right to me. The Lost and the Damned was released first on 360 last year, followed up by The Ballad of Gay Tony a few months later. I think you don't need GTAIV neccessarily to play them, but it's not a full new game. Which I think is more down to the fact that it took them so long to actually release the DLC than anything.

Thought San Andreas was a bit of a chore tbh. I should probably stay well clear of 4.

The more realistic GTA becomes the less fun it's going to be.

Actually speaking of the old GTA does anyone think GTA 3 would ever be released n the PSN by any faint hope..... I'd be first in line to get it!

Oh and macpac is dead right about the more realistic it gets, the worse it gets.

i have not played my copy in a very long time.i still see a few on my friends list playing it so am tempted to give it another go. i had to change playstations so all my data is lost from the last time i played it so will have to start again. from what i remembered it was trying to be too realistic. even cotrolling the cars had got difficult .
after san andreas i was really looking forward to it, but last time i played i was disappointed. but will play again in anticipation of red dead redemption.

GTA4 was fine. The problem is that its the same old gameplay (overall) as the others. We need something new/different. I don't know what they can do without losing the realism. San Andreas nearly went overboard. People got too used to the crazy missions in that so they thought GTA4 was boring. San Andreas was actually my least favourite of the main games. It was still good though.

You just need to get used to it. When you get good at it its actually better than the past games.

    I thought GTA4 was excellent.

    I like realism though.

I have to agree big time. I love the new realistic handling cars, after a few hours they become second nature . At the start they took a while to get used to but now I find it hard to go back when I play SA as you get no feed back or feel of the car like you do in GTA4.

Ya but that's the problem. GTA became such a big series because it was so unrealistic and random. The saying "if it ain't broke, don't fix it comes to mind"!

GTA4 was a very good game imo. However, GTA4 was a victim of the success of the previous games. People loved GTA:SA (well in most cases anyway), and allot of them expected GTA4 to expand on it, have more missions, more weapons, cars, bigger area to play in etc.

But this was never going to be the case with GTA4. GTA4 is the next gen version of GTA3. Both of these games were the first in the series to be released on respective generation of consoles. So, the focus on both games was getting the engine up and running and getting the core gameplay elements working.

Vice city built upon gta3, and san andreas built upon vice city. They were essentially expanding on their engine, each time pushing the hardware that bit further. I think they are doing the same this generation too.

As for going down the realism route, I think they did this to change the formula of the series a bit. It was never really a risk anyway, it was always going to sell. I wouldn't be surprised if they go back to the old formula for the next game (which imo, will not be gta5, but gta:some city).

Ofc, it's very likely im talking outta my arse :D

    This is GTA 4...

I havent finished GTA 4, i got bored of it really fast, still pop it on now and again for some online pay though..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,048 ✭✭✭✭Snowie

ok so what your all more or less saying is, keep doing the same old thing...?

I love the game im completing it for the 4th time, more or les to get the tropphys as i didnt have that update...

but in genrall i think the games awesome....

I cant complain story line is mad and even the the Lost aswell as gay tony references are in the game... I like the game more importantly "I think yep while to a degree they got lost in others things"
Thats what makes the game for me ok you cant fly planes, or parachoot which was always fun either run over harry christiners which I really miss :D.

The game has got some crazy shoot outs look at the bank job with packy,, its more or less heat massive shooting scene....

Imm really looking forward to the lost and the dammed as well as ballad of gay tony.. things are very different in those games... referenve to nicko and fat rom,an are all over the place...

Tbh I think GTAIV is like marmite for most people I like it... granted the game has a few anoying things but theirs dimitiri was a really poor charictor, who was just a minipulating Cvnt... There Whispers I heard the other night saying the net gtas going to be set in london which wouold make a lot of sence considering there game development studios are in leeds..And dont forget the pretty intelgent tax brekas video game compnays get over there.....

I thought GTAIV was a great game, but it didn't have that 'pick up and play feeling' like the previous games.

With GTAIII for example, I would just turn it on and drive around and that would be fun, but with GTAIV it does not feel like that at all. After the stroyline missions were over it just got boring.

What they would need are unrealistic things, like the jetpac from San Andreas, just to get away from the reality of the game.

San Andreas, even though it had its flaws, was a blast to play. Used to love driving to that huge mountain, go mountain biking, then take a drive up to san fran, pimp out the car and take it racing. Not even touching a mission!

I tried to play GTA 4 again recently, thought might get the new DLC, and found it retarded to control, not just the car but onfoot too. Feels so old compared to Uncharted and the likes. Won't be getting the DLC and will prob never play GTA 4 again. sad really

All the GTA 4 missions were totally scripted and felt like a poor mans gears of war. In GTA 3 if you were failing a mission you could approach it anyway you liked to and mess with the system. It was the most fun thing about it. In GTA 4 you have to carry out the mission the way the game says or it won't work and the scripting will screw up. It also wasn't fun to pick up and **** around with. That's the two biggest flaws that killed it for me. To sum up it was a sandbox game that reduced freedom and just wasn't much fun.

They were fun back in the day but are horrible to play these days... I would advise people to just remember the fun you had and not ruin your memories by trying to play them again.

Vice City was the high point of the series for me, everything has gone downhill after that (have only played the first bit of DLC for GTAIV and didn't think much of it...)
