how do you justify €20 entry to show our cars that you charge people to look at?
i never pre book any shows because of the weather, so where are you going with that price??

I am posting here as Éamonn not as NEVCC so these are my views.

This is one of the longest running show, 26 years an I think we have build up a reputation as one of the best shows in the country. As for the price, it costs over €35,000 to put the show on. We have finisher’s awards and refreshments for the entrants and we also give out over 30 crystal awards. Last year we donated to 10 different charities (I listed them on another thread).
We could degrade the show to a load of cars in a field and let everyone in for free but in my opinion the show would last very long after that. We lose money on every pre-booked car in the field which is the vast majority.
I will take your point to the committee about the price as we do get one or two queries each year.
    Thanks
    Éamonn
Again these are my views not those of the North East Car Club.

last year it was a fiver in to see the cars & 20 to enter thats why my classic will be in the car park & there are quite a few of my friends that agree with me! remember there can be no show without the cars, & there is really no need for the finishers award or refreshments, so you can let that be an option & charge 5 or even 7 to enter, mosney show is always big so dont be crying that you lose money!

Mosney show has not always been big it has taken 26 years ad hell of a lot of work to get it to where it is today.
The show is only €10 if you per-book which the vast majority do. The €20 is to encourage all cars to pre-book as it’s a nightmare to take money and give out forms on the day it blocks the entrance and causes no end of problems.
I think €10 for a show is not over the top at all.
As for crying about money as I said it costs over €35,000 to put the show on and if we don’t cover at least the cost we wouldn’t be able to donate to any charitable organisations. Sorry for the rant and you are of course entitled to park in the public car park at €5 a head but if there are two of you then that’s €10 with not awards or refreshments.
    Thanks
    Éamonn

so you are saying 2 or 4 people in the car & its still €20 with award & refreshments?
so it would be only €10 if pre booked & 4 people in the car?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 142 ✭✭NEVCC

Yip €10 per car even if you had 10 in the car. I'm not on the committee this year so I’m not sure if the refreshments cover one or two, it was two last year.

I have been going to the mosney show from the beginning. It is one of the best shows in the country. For the last 5 or 6 years we have been entering cars in the show. You could save yourselves a lot of money by not having the likes of Brendan Shine there. Very few people go to see people like him. We all go to look at and enjoy the cars, not listen to that music. Do you not have LMFM there with a live radio show? As for the refreshments none of my friends ever use the tickets, and the finisher awards last year were a joke, ask most people that got one. There are a few other shows that dont charge in to show your car and they also give finisher awards and refreshments.

I reckon I'll go this year. What's the story if you're not displaying with a club? Are there car specific sections?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

An event organiser can't please everyone 100% of the time with all of the entertainment, food, entry prices, awards etc.

Mosney is one of the biggest classic car events in the country and let's remember, the takings minus the costs go to charity. And really, €10 per car pre-booked including refreshments does not seem excessive to me. Éamonn explained why they discourage people paying on the day.

Let's keep this thread on the road - only constructive criticism is welcome here.

I'm sure it costs a couple of thousand euro to get Brendan Shine or whoever. I dont think it would make any difference to anybody if there was no live music there. The saving on this alone would be a tidy sum to go to any charity or reduce the entry fee by a euro or two. As rust or weld said it all depends on the weather as to what cars come out and with the economy as it is we dont want to pre book at a cost if it turns out to be lashing rain and end up not taking our cars. As I said I have been going to mosney from the very beginning and it is one of the best shows in the country but they need to have a look at the price they charge in to show your car because of the economy as it is now.

i have to say paying for a live act only adds to the cost and most ppl dont even listen never mind watch it

Lads, it may be the case that there's a cost, but in all fairness it's part of the experience for some. We don't all look for the same things on a day out, and maybe the musical entertainment is enough to keep the whining wives off the back of some of the oul lads who want to chit chat about motors and the like.

I don't want to pick a row now, but 4doorsuper, are you for real? Moaning about a tenner, how you'd save a fecking euro if there was no music, and the state of the economy in general is a ridiculous argument to try and make in relation to a great family day out. You might as well just stay at home and read a book if that's the way you actually view these things....Scrabble? How about a nice cup of tea and an argument after dinner instead? Well, that'll save you your tenner for sure, won't it.

I'm all in favour of anyone suggesting whatever they think would improve something, but ye've made your suggestions now so it's time to move on....

Éamonn, never met you before but looking forward to attending Mosney this year, with or without the kitsch musical performances. ;)

Thanks, any and all comments are welcome.
We had our monthly meeting last Thursday and I raised this issue and after a long discussion it was decided to maintain the show as is for this year and review for next.
I can assure you the entertainment is not costing thousands and is provided to entertain those who may not be as enthused by old cars as some of us.
As I said we take all comments and recommendation seriously as we want this show to continue into the future.
    Thanks
    Éamonn
