Carr to Melbourne

Heard from a very good source this evening that the Melbourne Franchise have been enquiring about Connachts Fionn Carr, anyone think that it might be a good move for him?
If he turned out to be a smashing player, which he is clearly showing the potential to be, it could be an incredibly embarrassing situation for the IRFU imo.

One thing that is debated quite often here is Irelands lack of out-and-out pacy wingers, and once we've found one, it would be a shame to let him go.

    Opinions?

No offence to you or your source but I'll have to see this myself before I believe it.

Hypothetically it would be an incredible move for him. The Irish management rate Dowling ahead of him, he has no immediate international future.

If he went to oz, his international career would be stillborn, due to lack of proximity and season difference.

Its bad enough for irish players in England...

I suppose it would be a great adventure for a year or two.

i think his contract with conn is till the end of next year.

wouldnt blame him for going tho, he isnt rated by the kidney and the likes of dowling who is a sub is

I'd question your source to be honest if he is indeed contracted till the end of next season.

Why do I get the feeling this user saw Thomonds post and then started this rumour?

IF this is true (which I really doubt), he should definitely go.

At the moment, he has a bit of Danny Cipriani about him, immensely talented but not rated by the national team management.

Agreed. Two fingers up to those who put Ian Dowling ahead of him.

    Thought the same thing myself!

On a more serious note, What is his defence like? TBH I haven't seen him play much, and I have tended to only see him going forward when he is admittedly quite electric.

When I say defence, I mean not just his tackling but fielding, kicking etc. I suppose what I'm wondering is are Kidney and co and convinced enough of his ability going backwards?

Be interested to hear the Connacht fans view on this...

If i were him id be gone like a shot if its true.
A rainey night in galway getting your arse kicked or teh chance to play ina warm climate? and a brand of rugby that might suit a flyer like him.

I think he can do no more at connacht and not getting the recognition for it must be disheartening for the lad Dowling rated higher than him.

Hed be a huge loss to connacht but other players may question going there seems no matter how good you perform international recognition is far away better be a squad member of Leinster or Munster thana decent performer for the poor relations.

From the five games I've seen him including the A game its not great to be honest. His positioning is only so so. It's all stuff that can be learned though especially when he moves on to a higher level.

    Really? I doubt it.

last season despite scoring more trys than the combined trys scored by Hurley, Dowling and Barry Murphy the latter 3 were all selected ahead of Carr for the summer tour.
if i was him i'd be offski!

His fielding is fine, he played full back a few times last year and didn't have a problem. His tackling has improved tenfold, when he started he missed a few tackles, but that would be a rarity now. The only problem I would have with his defence is his positioning, he tends to shoot up out of the line (a la BOD) but without BOD's timing, leaving a gap which any decent centre/winger could exploit. Thats stuff that can be coached though, and has improved already.
