Congrats on completing the cycle. Is this Galwaycycle the same as the coast to coast charity cycle, Maynooth to Galway on a Saturday and back on the Sunday? I'm trying to recall when I did that event, I thought it had been abandoned. It was an enjoyable weekend with an enormous amount of pasta in Galway, and a very nice bar!

Well done. I saw you all going along the N4 near Enfield on Friday morning.

You had a great weekend for it.

Not the same cycle then. You had great weather for it.

fantastic weather which made for really fast pace, broke last years average of 26k/ph and did an average of 27.2k/ph, loved it though

The return leg was done with Philip Cassidy leading, I averaged 23mph. About 5 miles from Maynooth Philip and a few other veterans took off, it shattered our group, it was interesting/embarrassing to be so comprehensively dropped.

Not entirely surprised you were dropped if you had been keeping that pace up all the way from Galway! Sounds savage.

I've lost the Polar data in a hard drive crash, but the day was broken into 4 sections for rest and food, there were about 35 in the group with a gentle westerly breeze. Most of it felt OK!

The Galway Cycle was my first proper cycle two years ago, I think I got in about four spins before that weekend. It was some fun even though we didn't have the weather that this year's crew were lucky to have. On the cycle home on Sunday we had hailstone, rain, headwind, sun, snow. All with a massive hangover (or perhaps just drunk for the first 50km or so).

We must have met at some stage Biomed, I was the one who raised the average age:D, my legs are a bit stiff to-day but a great weekend and a great cause, yes a very fast pace towards Maynooth especially after such a long cycle but the weather and tailwind was just begging for a 'going for glory' break :), looking forward to next year.

It was a great weekend indeed. We were especially lucky with the weather looking out at it now, even if I'd a bit of a cold head on the road after a headshave the Thursday night! About 109 cyclists took part. and a brilliant crew both on and off the road. Roll on the next one!

Just back from this trip myself!

Such a brilliantly organised event. From the foodstops to the support vehicles to the safety, marshalls the whole thing ran so well, which is a tall order with so many novice cyclists on the road.

Really enjoyed the weekend and would recommend the 2011 event to any cyclist of any level.
