I remember seeing on the news that UL and NUIG made some kind of a partnership recently. Just wondering what it actually means for students. Are there any major advantages to this new connection or has anything changed?

Well the NUI system is being disbanded by a spineless government looking for some easy money to save ( ). Certain universities such as TCD and DCU are going to make a push for independence and rapid growth, while smaller universities like UL and NUIG are going to combine to try and improve their value for money. Afaik the details are somewhat hazy but I can see new media and other connections between departments being beneficial for students in the years to come.

Here's the bit that worries me:
The University of Limerick and NUI Galway have entered into an institution-wide strategic alliance across all of the key areas of activity including teaching, research, technology transfer, lifelong learning and the provision of services.

Now just how do you share teaching and lifelong learning resources without
affecting the quality of the services offered? Isn't marketing great - if you're fool enough to take it at face value!!
