Cycle meet ups - Could Google Maps be a useful tool

I am fairly new to this forum and road cycling as I only got my first proper road bike late last year. Have been out on group spins and I also notice that around the weekends there are a few threads posted here where people are trying to meet up for weekend spins.

The gap I see is that there is no where to go to see if there are any group cycles in your area. I do appreciate that there are cycling clubs who have their own regular cycles and maybe we should all be part of one but how about using something like the map at the link below.

    http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&ll=53.727871,-8.990421&spn=3.230386,9.876709&z=7&msid=114531726398785313204.000482de37f6af8b6c897

Same link here in case that long one gets broken http://tiny.cc/hbfh3

Idea is that if you are planning to go for a spin you would create a placemark on the map with the details, meet time, location, distance, average speed. That way it might give people the info they need to get involved with more group cycles.

Sample placemark on it, have not figured out a way yet to 'expire' the placemarks when a cycle date has passed.

It seems to me that these spins are typically only arranged in the final couple of days or so, and the details often change, based on feedback in this forum. I suspect something that gives the appearance of rigid arrangements will be difficult to operate in practice.
