Have you spoken to anyone about your depression?

I sincerely hope you can't get new tits on your medical card tbh.

    Is this a joke....
You want the state to pay for a cosmetic surgery for you that you don't need and and is in no way life threatening!!!!

If you somehow manage to get this, then things are certainly worse then I ever imagined. This is prob half the problem with the country at the moment, Jesus this **** makes me mad!

    I can't believe some people

No no I doubt very much this is a joke! One of my besties had this done, for free....she just went to her doctor, explained her situation and 4 months later, bam...new tits. 12 months later, she was in for a FREE, yes FREE tummy tuck also.

Now I love her, she's one of my best friends, but at the time I was super super pissed off....not at her, but just at the system as my granny had been waiting 20 months to have cataracts removed from both eyes that had left her blind in one eye and more than 50% blind in the other.

I said this to my friend but hey, there was no point in being mad at her, she took advantage of a privalage that I would have too in her sitaution. It was just upsetting that someone could get new breasts and a flat tummy in less than a year when my then 79 year old gran couldn't even watch the news on TV for over 2 years.

Anyhow OP, sorry, I know this is not a debate about medical system. To answer your questions, my friend went to her doctor (who was female ) and explained that she was severly depressed due to her body and really really needed the surgery. The doctor then gave her a referral to see an consultant who ultimately decided if she need the surgery or not. Clearly he though she did.

    Good luck.

And we wonder why our country is in the state it is!

It's unbelieveable that somebody could have an operation, paid for by the state, that is non essential and is not life-saving or to treat a serious condition.

From the above post, it looks like such a thing is possible, OP. However, before you go down that route, you should really talk to your doctor about your depression. If you're not happy with your own doctor, try another one who may give you a different treatment and suggest other ways of treating it that doesn't involve anti-depressants (or a boob job).

OP, if you're suffering from such severe depression, it is highly unlikely that "bigger breasts" are going to make you happy. I would suggest that you dig a bit deeper and try and find the root of any problems you might be having.

I think you were able to get it done on a medical card alright, but this has probably changed given the state of the country at the moment. Either way, you'll be waiting for a long time for it.

and yeah hence me being on anti-depressent and a psychologist for a year who thinks it will be a good idea as my selfesteem is at rock bottom and the underlying issue is lossing my original size and being left like an iron board

You wanted to get it on the medical card! How would that be helping the economy exacty?

Seriously doubt that this would be a go-er in this climate!

As of April 1st medical card patients will no longer be able to get dental fillings on the medical card. Only extractions will be paid for by the state. That will end up being a much larger cosmetic and medical issue than breast implants for healthy women. Lots of people on social welfare will be forced to get extractions rather than fillings as not many people could fork out half their weekly income on a filling!

Two cosmetic surgeries on the Medical Card, neither of which life-threatening, now that is taking the p***. Yet people will now be forced to get teeth out rather than being able to get a filling & down the line have to get dentures... the whole system is a shambles.

There is women out there who have lost one or two breasts due to cancer & wouldn't even be entitled to a prosthetic breast off the HSE it's mad!

OP if you lost weight since the birth of your kids, resulting in smaller breasts it may very well be decided that they are your natural size & be completely ruled out for anything. If that was me & it really was taking it's toll on me that much, I'd be setting aside what ever I could no matter how small of an amount each week to pay for it myself knowing that some day I would definately have the answer & it would give me a goal with hope to work towards, rather than relying on the medical card where you could wind up just setting yourself up for a great big knock back.

    +1.

There are a lot of people who are unhappy with their face/body. A lot of them may also be depressed. However, I don't think tax payers paying for cosmetic procedures is the answer. Changing you looks is not going to cure depression. What medical help are you getting?

I hope your depression fades soon. If you are still unhappy with your size then save for a boob job.

Troll. How does a Double-D go down to an A after having kids?

I'd say many a council rat has tried to use that depresssion argument before.

OK, I'm locking this thread, for the time being at least. It has been totally derailed.

OP Please contact the your doctor for more information. Boards.ie is not qualified to give medical advice.
