No panic, I've just moved it to the Mac forum from the Apple Media Devices forum.

It depends of which Macbook you have, the latest ones have a Mini DisplayPort, while older ones have a Mini DVI Port. Do you know what model you have / when you bought it?

Here are links for Dealextreme, you might find them cheaper elsewhere I havent looked.

Mini DisplayPort DP Male to HDMI Female Adapter Cable (10CM)

Mini DVI Male to HDMI Female Adapter Cable (10CM)

You just need to connect one of these adapters to your Macbook and then a standard hdmi cable from the adapter to your tv.

If you want to connect it, rather than connect via HDMI (as above), get a VGA -> DVI/mini displayport cable as either way you'll have to run audio separately and generally, the VGA input is the only channel that has separate audio & video inputs

oops, I forgot about that. Jev is right. Thats what I do with my Macbook, a VGA adapter & separate audio cable and it works great. I had forgot the sound wont output from the mini DisplayPort/DVI to hdmi.

So if you have a Mini DisplayPort, use the three of these:

Mini DisplayPort Male to VGA Female Adapter

    VGA Cable

There is a connector available that will combine the audio output and and mini display port to a HDMI connection.

Mini Displayport Male and USB Male/Toslink Audio to HDMI Female Converting Adapter

The Macbook 4,1 has a Mini DVI port, so use a:

Mini DVI Male to VGA Female Adapter
    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.27977

along with a vga cable and stereo audio cable.

btw, that vga cable I linked to is just for example, it may not be good quality I haven't used it the reviews don't seem to be very good. But I did by my adapter from dealextreme and it works fine.

With a Mac Mini, the newer ones have both a Mini DisplayPort and a Mini DVI port while the older intel models have a Mini DVI port. The same cables as for the setting up a Macbook to a tv (with vga port) will work.

If you want both sound and video into your TV by a hdmi cable you would need to use a Converting Adapter as Talisman said.
