    Hi Garluc,

Good luck with the engagement - I got engaged myself just 2 days ago!
We got my OH`s engagement ring from Patrick Glynn on abbey street - they are a wholesaler that rely mostly on word of mouth and I cannot recommend them highly enough. They were amazing to deal with, we`ll be going back soon to have our wedding rings made by them too
We got a great ring at a reasonable price (25% below the budget I told the jeweller I had to spend).

check out weddingsonline for more opinions about jewellers as well as other threads here.....

try weldons on clarendon street - family run place, they were really friendly and not at all pushy. i got my wife's ring there, it has a GIA cert. she's hinting about a new ring now though, it never seems to end!

As I have said before on the forums, Appleby's are the only ones for this type of purchase. They are not only for the high end and I would think that it would be very difficult to beat their value, both here in Ireland or abroad.

Not sure what your budget is, but we went to Applebys and found them not too over the top. Saying that, I've no doubt we could have purchased for less if we shopped about or had it made but the ring was so beautiful and we both loved it that we said we'd get it there and then. They also have a good after sales service of free cleaning for life - most places will charge for this. I've no affiliation with Applebys, just sharing my experience. However, there are great goldsmiths in Dublin and the restof the country so if you have a ring in mind they are definately worth checking out. Best of luck with it.

I recently bought an engagement ring in Ernest Jones on Grafton st for my OP there before valentines and can't speak higher for them. They did everything I asked and were spot on!

Definitely Glynns - they are a manufacturing jeweller and so no glitzy premises but you will get a lot more for your money and they have a very good selection, also if you like features of 2 rings etc then they will produce a ring for you which combines the features.

This is the way to go.

Only thing is, they do not open on Saturdays.

Hi billybunty.I know this discussion is long finished but could you tell me do applebys stamp there name on the inside of the ring or is it just the usual stamped numbers

Plus one for Patrick Glynns, they were lovely to deal with and great price. We are heading back there for the wedding rings.

Voltaire diamonds on Stephens green, you can design your own ring there too

In my opinion Kilkenny is a great place for engagement ring shopping- it offers a wide variety of styles and price ranges as there is plenty of jewellery stockists, goldsmiths and designers (Murphy's, Michelle O'Connell, Ryan GL, JMK, R.Heltzel, C.Parker etc) most of them work on commision too. I have friends who came from Belfast to pick their ring in Kilkenny and were really pleased with the whole experience.
I am not engaged (have purchased jewellery from some of these designers though and was always very pleased with their service) but I would definitely consider buying a designer piece of unique value (and when I say designer I dont mean mass-produced Tiffany's) seeing that this is THE ring I shall wear for the rest of my life. I would kill my bf if he bought a ring online too, so please dont go down that route, nothing less personal than buying from a website, no matter what the saving. I am wondering if anyone here has any good/bad experience with any of the Kilkenny Jewellers?
