Morning all, dont know if any of you were listening to Today FM this morning? They had "Mr Merlin" on & he was saying they've an auction comming up full of ex fatcat cars. EG a Bently GT which he reckons should go for €40k, down from €250k back in '04. Soulds like it could be fun to go to, just leave the credit card at home!!

    Have a look http://www.merlincarauctions.ie/prestige-catalogue?lang=

The bentley would be 60k retail. Assuming its in showroom condition, I can see this one at auction going for 55k. Thats more than the trade would be willing to pay. 40k would be a bargain though.

Slightly OT, but who puts a Parrot kit in a Bentley? Looks awful.

95 Honda NSX in there too. wonder what that'll go for?

Alot of stuff there thats impossible to shift from a forecourt at the minute too. Long versions of the A8 & S class are not something that easily find buyers. 2 Passenger Q7s, X5s, Range rovers which are not selling either. They will be hoping to get people to pay well over trade value for them.

(Green = Sold, Red = No Sale, Black = Provisionally Sold)

    ______________________________________________________________

Overall, I was pretty shocked with many bids - the biggest shocker being the Bentley. The buyer paid 58,000 and another 5% (plus vat of 21% on that) for the buyer's fee, bringing the total cost to a whopping 61,388 euros - which is MORE expensive than the ASKING price of a 2004 Continental GT from Rathdown Motors (as the cheapest example), although Rathdown's does have a few extra miles on the clock but still barely anything. :P The Porshce 911 which was sold provisionally was also a shocker, in my opinion. You can pick up a nice 2005 (one year younger) 911 Carrera 2 (997) on carzone at the moment for 45k ASKING, so I would have been thinking twice about paying 43k excl. fees for the 2004 Carrera S.

I honestly can't imagine half of those provisional sales going through. The 2007 CLS320, for example, is definitely worth a LOT more than 25,000 euros and so too is the CLS55 AMG - although the amount of people willing to buy a mad machine like that will be extremely limited these days I'm sure.

Out of what sold, I think the best value (out of what I'd be interested in) was the 2007 Range Rover HSE which sold for about 13k cheaper than the asking price of the cheapest 2007 HSE on Carzone, so congrats to the lucky buyer. :P

A tip for future Merlin bidders: PLEASE LOOK AT CARZONE FIRST BEFORE YOU BID! It actually almost hurts seeing people paying more than cars are for sale for in garages. These cars come with no warranties, a 5% (PLUS VAT) buyer's fee, possibly tons of underlying problems and no peace of mind whatsoever. When I see half the prices up there, even of the provisionally sold ones I just want to pull my hair out. Just because it's at auction, does not, I repeat NOT, mean that it has to be cheaper!

I did say earlier in the thread that the bentley would probably go 55k which would have been too much for it considering the retail price of them. 58k (& fees) is crazy imo.

iPhone and carzone app.... get prices as you're walking around the lot! ;)

    That's what I do...

There does not seem to be many bargains there, I was looking at the XC90 good price but a provisional sale means subject to bank or owner approval? I'm new to this auction stuff.

Thanks again for the post, fair dues.

Yes, provisional sales are sales subject to bank/owner's approval.

Are the prices in red the bids, not the reserve?
Otherwise, NSX for €19k = :pac:

They don't tell us what the reserves are, just if the bids have met the reserve or not. So the red ones are the beds which didn't meet the reserves.

    05 Elise for 10k with only 37k miles, that's a bloody bargain!
