Holiday in France for my parents-any recommendations?

    Hi,
my parents are booked to travel to France in June and we are looking for an area to which they can travel. They are travelling by ferry (as my Dad cannot fly) and can be dropped off ANYWHERE between the ferry port and La Rochelle. They will not have a car available to them.

They are usually used to going on package holidays, usually to Costa del Sol or Canaries - but now due to a fear of flying, ths is no longer an option. They are nervous about going to France as they have never been. And they worry about the language - even though my mother has basic French.

THis is probably a big ask - but is there anywhere that might be beside the sea, accessible to bus/train network, fairly English-speaking, fairly touristy (shops, restaurants, etc), that they may meet others of a similar age (60s, 70s) - as they do enjoy going out at night and meeting people.
Oh, and good walks as my dad walks 5 miles a day.

    Any help appreciated - Thanks!

    Which Port? Cherbourg or Roscoff?

Roscoff, I think. They are sailing from Rosslare.

From Rosslare they might be going to Roscoff or to Cherbourg: it's worth checking. The route from the port of arrival to La Rochelle is a big determinant.

Are they basically looking for a seaside holiday, with options for day trips? I'd start my thinking with somewhere close to St. Malo, perhaps Dinard.

Definitely Roscoff. And yes, looking for a seaside holiday. What other kind is there?:) LOL

I would say either an apartment complex or a mobile home in a park. They'd prefer to be self catering

Any chance of them renting a car ? If they go for a park, the problem is getting food and going on day trips. Most on site Restaurant/Takeaways are not very good. If they go for a park on the beach front, they may have a bit of a walk to the supermarket. I suppose whoever is dropping them off could drive them to the supermarket first and they could fill their fridge.

Stayed at a mobile home park in the small seaside town of Benodet last year, nice quite park, about 20/30 mins drive from the medieval city of Quimper.
Cross the road outside park gates and you are on to a beach, or ten minutes walk on safe footpath, oneway car traffic only, and you are on to the main beach/promenade. Some restaurants here, mainly seafood.
Fairly good small shop in the park. Restaurant and takeaway in the park are not very good.
Big supermarket in the town, 5 min drive, but too far to walk with bags, about 30 mins.

If they are going for two weeks, this town maybe a bit too small/quite.
