    Hi there

I'm looking to do an ICT training course over the summer, something for the CV and also something to get me using the stuff. As some of you know from my other threads I have not been exposed to technology in the school I have worked in and I have just realised that I am at a severe disadvantage if I was to get a job in a secondary school that has great ICT provisions.

    Any advice would be great!

I'd advise you to just check the various places that offer summer courses, there's always a few based on IT in the classroom, at least there are for primary teachers. Your local Education Centre should be able to point you in the right direction as well.

ICDL is always a good place to start if you have no computer qualifications.

It also depends on the depth you want to go - A+ is a technician's certificate to say that you can open up a computer and replace parts inside. It is doable over the Summer.

There are various Microsoft Office Specialist certifications you can also do.

Thanks for the replies, they have made me realise how incredibly vague my OP was!!

I am PC literate, thats not a problem, have ECDL course.

What I want help with is using interactive whiteboards, creating interesting blogs, ie: with video links to them, etc.. , creating podcasts, all this kind of stuff. Even using data projectors, but I suspect they are a doddle once you've been shown.

Data projectors are EXTREMELY easy to use. Its just a case of turning them on with the remote and then whatever is on the computer screen is shown on the board. Simple to use but VERY cool if you do a powerpoint.

As for the others. . . . I dont know how to use them myself either but Id imagine that whatever school you go into will have people who are in the know who will be able to give ya some pointers.

Best of luck with your CV improvement.

Have a look at Moodle. It's spreading in schools now.

I don't know if there is a specific course you could do on all this - these kind of things are usually down to experience. We use ActiveBoards here and I really learned as I went along.

One thing you could look at is a web authoring course. Might help with the blog.

Podcasts are just mp3's loaded up onto a website, most content management systems would allow that. So maybe look into Content Management Systems (CMS). Jamoola and Droopal are two examples.

    hi

www.digitalcreator.ie - would be a good start for web 2.0 stuff like blogs and podcasts.
    - do a search for your local education centre also for short courses in other useful areas like digital camera / white board training etc.
    - see links for courses and info on www.ncte.ie also

I'm interested in this topic too.

Does anybody know the sort of things they teach in ICT classes in secondary schools? I can't find an ICT syllabus online, but there are ICT teachers. So, what sort of things are they teaching?
