Opening xls files

Hi lookin for some help , not very good with computers and having problems trying to open an attachment on a email that is a xls file ( whatever that is ) but unable to do so seems i have to pay for some product called file helper ! Is there any free product to download to do this or any other way ? Thanks

It’s a Microsoft excel file. If you don’t have excel it should open with open office (free).

Or an Excel viewer.

But Open Office would be the better option.
